built a bed tire carrier

Hey heres a couple pics of a tire mount/ chase rack(i dont really know what to call it lol) that i built.

made from .120 tubing, drops right into the bed stake holes and bolts in. holds 2 tires, has room for 4 gas cans in the back, plenty of room for gear underneath it, and im going to add some toolboxes and a high-lift mount to it soon.

its not 100% done, need to weld in some tube ends and stuff. but let me know what you think.

and one of it in the truck. bad pic but you kinda get the idea.

I hated mine -- no rear vision. Your's looks good though -- even though it has the same problem.

I like how you built it so you could like slide some sheets of plywood under it or whatever. Makes it more practical.

ya i only use it off road. i like to be able to see when im driving around town or in tight college parking lots lol.

i just wanted something that didnt require drilling and didnt take up bed space for camping gear and stuff.

thats badass!

with my tool box and tire carrier it was a PITA to go camping/wheelin

i had to take the tire off, stand it up, then jigsaw the cooler, containers, tent, bags, tools ect in the bed.. haha

edit: just saw that it went into the holes. how do you keep it from bouncing around?

it has four 1/2" bolt, one at each corner, goes through the hole in the bed into the rack, which has the nuts welded inside it.

i like how you can just pull the 4 bolts and take the whole thing out whenever you want, and no major modifications to the bed either, i also like that theres room for a lot of other stuff in there, its gonna look great with a highlift on it, maybe put a shovel and an ax on the other side too, nice work

thanks. ya i have a high-lift just need to put a mount on it.

i really only use it when im going to the desert because it kinda get in the way on-road lol.

i just didnt like how low a full-size spare hung down in the stock location, but i couldnt really sacrifice bed space as i still need to haul gear.

we even found a swamp in the middle of the desert! lol it was about a half mile of foot deep mud with some big holes and stuff

looks like you might be able to go any bigger for tires tho
