Illuminating new addition...

So i bought myself a welder a couple weeks ago and fabbed a new widget for my truck. It's not 100% done but I wanted to share:

I made it and some custom bracketry that mounts it to the over cab bar of my Kargomaster ladder rack. The rock guards are only on there while I was fitting things so the lights did not get messed up. I still need to have it and the rest of the rack media blasted and re-powder coated.

What do ya think?

BlackStallion 04-28-2009 05:37 PM

I got the welder from Home Depot LINKY it is just a little 110 fluxcore wirefeed mig but I think it worked pretty good for the price. I spent a little over $300 for the welder a pair of gloves and a welding helmet, the little hand held shield thing that comes with the welder is in my opinion worthless since you can't use both hands when you use it, good for people if they want to watch but I like to have both hands on the gun for better control. The welds are a little messy because its flux core wire but nothing a wire brush and an angle grinder with a flap wheel could not take care of.

Nice. Mount it now.

Nice. I sometimes wish i had something like that to protect my lights from tree branches

I am hoping to get it and the rest of the rack to the powder coater next week. If all goes to plan I should have it mounted and working by next weekend.

DrMacZed 05-10-2009 12:27 AM

Well I managed to get the whole thing finished and mounted on my truck this week. I am very satisfied with the results.

That looks really, really good! Goes nicely with the brush guard on the front.

herm59 05-14-2009 11:43 AM

Looks good, I like it. Lets get some night shots.

04blackedge 05-14-2009 11:45 AM

I'd like it more if your truck was lifted.

DrMacZed 05-14-2009 12:45 PM

Thanks for the compliments guys...

Agreed, with all that stuff on the top my truck looks really tiny.
I want to try that "PreKey Mod" and either the chevy drop shackle lift or taller blocks, though I am leaning more toward the shackles since I am not a huge fan of blocks to begin with.

One silly question which I am sure has been covered to death but,.. If I go with say a 31 or 32 inch tall tire after the suspension lift, how much of an MPG drop can I expect, if any? I have the 4.0L with 4.10s and a 5spd manual.

You by chance never lived on the East Coast did you? I just noticed your name.

I wish it was my garage, it's my Dad's 600 Square ft shop in his basement.

Heh coolio, I used to think my name was pretty unique but I have learned that there are a lot of guys with my same name, just not out here in Oregon, I only know of one other guy out here with my same name. :)
