My Custom Rear Bumper

I wanted to wait until I was completely finished, but I'm waiting on parts which are coming in wednesday, so I figured I'd go ahead and post the progress.

First, here's the shipment of steel from Mcmaster:

This is what I already had lying around:

Here are the shackles from ebay (5/8" 5-ton):

This is what I drew up in SolidEdge:

After Day one:

Here I tested the fit by simply placing the shell on the stock brackets. As you can see the bumper molds around the exhaust pipes:

I then fabbed up some brackets for the new bumper. They are duplicates to the hitch mounting brackets:

Next I welded everything, adding a gusset and brackets on the bumper to mount to the brackets. The cutout in the middle gusset is to clear a piece of metal on the frame:

This is the current progress, the ends are boxed and the license plate is mounted:

I'm waiting the for license plate light and shackle mounts to come in. The lights should be here in a couple days, the shackle mounts are coming in wednesday.

Any and all opinions welcome!

Looks sweet, that's what I was gonna do originally. Only thing I would've done different is used an actual reciever tube. They're only like $15 man, lol, alot cheaper than that length of square stock. Unless you plan on using t for other projects as well. A real reciever piece would've looked better than square stock hanging off your bumper. What're you gonna do about the exhaust? Seems they'd rattle or at very least wear the coating(whatever it may be, paint/bedliner)off your bumper.

WOW!!! That's looking good. What are you using for a license plate light? I still don't have a light on my LP.

Yeah I'll be painting in black. I was going for the ARB style. I like the look of beefy bumpers.

Receiver tube? I didn't know they made receiver tubes. You mean a receiver tube that they sell for you to weld onto your own project? Trust me I would have bought something like that, lol.

The light I'm waiting for in the mail are these:

Yeah, the reciever tube is sold at Tractor's Supply for like $15.

Well tie me up and call me spanky. All well, live and learn.

The one I made will still hold up, I just lost cool points, that's all, lol.

Oh yeah, sorry......I started the truck up when it was test fitted and it didn't seem to rattle. I know what your talking about cause it happened to the stock hitch.

The pipes are pretty rigid, but if it does rattle I can either grind a little more out of the cutouts, or somehow put some insulation.

As long as you've got secure pipes. I've seen some on trucks that shake like a son of a gun. Your fab skills look good, I'm sure you already thought of that happening. Just checking. It'll be sweet all painted up with the light bolts. Can't wait to see it finished and installed. Kudos.

For the license plate light I'm using:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...s_promot_widget

They double as the mounting bolts for the plate. Should be very clean.

I thought about it, but frankly I'd never use them.
