Nerf bar mod

I got a set of Smittybilt nerfs for my truck for next to nothing. Only problem is they're for a 97...mine's a 98.

How hard would it be (and how much would it cost) to cut the existing brackets off and fab/weld on new ones so they will fit? I'm no welder, so I'd have to have someone do it for me.

I held them up to see how they should mount and the mounting points were WAY different. Unless I just didn't know what I was looking at (which is entirely possible), I'm pretty sure that major surgery is needed.

I'll check again tomorrow and try to get a couple of pics posted.
