I really like the idea of cutting enough to run a stepside tailgate

I do like that idea, but my tires would be sticking out too far... I don't know. I REALLY want to do it, but I can never get any help with anything, and I am just afraid that if I do it, It will end up looking like poop and I will be kicking my self for doing it. If I had a helping hand it might be a different story, but I dont want to tackle a job like this on my own.

if your worried about your tires sticking out then a dovetail is a bad idea for you, 'cause that's the whole point of doing one is so your tires get in the way of rocks before the body does. there may be legality issues on the roads also.

go check out the Tundra Evolution project over on ttora.com

that truck has a sweet narrowed bed with some rub rails built into the roll bar for bed protection.

see.
it's narrowed a small amount and has sick roll bar setup
I love that setup and i'll probably do something similar if I get away from my current pre-runner bed setup, or get another truck to fix up.

If you narrowed it the 8" for the step side be and did a roll bar like that, your truck would look hella cool and would have serious rock protection

just a thought

I haven't been on in a few days, But that tundra looks Kickass! I'll keep that one in mind... I haven't had a chance to work on it, been too busy getting everything finalized for my new job (start tomorrow) and swapping the ECTEDs out for ARBs. But, You guys may have changed my mind now, lol. I may want to do something like the tundra... The only problem I see with that is that it would be a ***** to ever pull the bed off. We'll see. I need to hurry up and make up my mind and just do it!

As far as the tires go, we don't have a fender law in TN that I'm aware of, but I honestly don't want the tire sticking out a ton. With the dove tail, it would only be out like 1.5-2 inches at the rear of the tire, and about an inch at the front. Thats because the front of the bed would be the same width, and the rear of the bed would be 4" narrower (per side) so the middle of the bed would be 2 inches narrower... If I narrowed the whole thing, it would be easier, but the whole bed side would go in 4 inches. Not to mention I'd have to pay my buddy like $800 for the tube work, which sucks. We'll see, probably will take me a while to make up my mind.

your switching ected's for ARB's?

so the ected's arent working, or what?

I've done alot of tube work with a harbor freight/cummins tool type tube bender for like $100. not the best, but they do work, in fact all the tube on my truck was made with one

idk the exactly definition, but the wheel base is obviously shorter.. i was under the impression bobbing included cutting it out between the cab/tire and shortening the wheelbase?

andd.. i do believe there is a chunk missing between the bumper and tire.
