Started on rear bumper

Finally getting started. I have seen a few guys with a double sqaure tubed roll pan. This is similar. When I first test fitted the pieces I didn't like how the square tubing was straight and the tailgate had an arch to it. I put the project on the back burner at that point. I started it up today.

I'm using c-channel. I cut out kerfs in the back so I could bend it. This is pretty much the final arch:

I welded in the kerfs to hold the arch:

and cut to length:

I need to do it again for the bottom one and get it as a complete unit. The gap will allow spare tire access from after the body lift.

don't understand? The first gap will hold a LED line of fire. I would love for the second gap to hold a Reverse light only line of fire. All white lights.

oh ok, nm i guess i misunderstood, i was thinking you would have a hitch tube inbetween the top channel and the bottom channel, then put channels on each side of the hitch.

i was confused.

Andrew, basically yes. There are least two guys here who have done it and it looks sharp. The only thing I am doing different is I am attempting to arch the steel to follow the tailgate. If someone posted a pic of the design I think you would love it when you see it. I did. I hope to have rocksliders at some point down the sides and matching in the back under this "rollpan" I am making.

Will- When you see my rear window in about a week you may change your mind. I may get booted out of the off road communities and told to never come back.

Here is the inspiration. I am pretty sure Andy was the first to do it. If not I apologize:

I'm getting started on mine this weekend as well. It's a variation off of Andy's design. I'm integrating a classIII reciever into it and it'll be a bit beefier, so to speak. Five pair of bolts holding that sucker down. It's gonna be sweet.

I like how you cut slats in the steel to match the curvature of the tailgate, very clever. Too fancy for me, I just want a hunka chunka steel back there =]

Wayne if you put shackles on it for chain to hook to, REMEMBER TO SECURE THE SHACKLES. Andy's whacked his bed a few times, i felt the dents with my own fingers. So if you're welding just put a lil blocker or something.
