thinking roof basket thoughts

I like the idea of a roof basket because it would give me more room for gas cans and gear bags when i haul the dirt bikes and friends. also i would add maybe 4 lights on the front and 2 on the back. but i have those cab light i put on years ago. Would a basket look ok with the cab lights or would it be better if i got rid of them? any advice is appreciated.

that would be neat, but i'd say make a cargo hitch carrier thing, i made one in my welding class and you prob could put 1000 pounds on it and it would hold up(depending on your hitch receiver ha)

easy to remove and useful for when you have a full bed and need a little more room.

on mine i used larger square tubing, so i can slide it into the back of my truck, yet add another hitch thing with a ball and put the boat/trailer behind that so i can haul even more if i needed too.

I was actually thinking of baskets on my way home from work this morning.

I was really thinking about how to make the rack easily removable as well. I really wouldnt want that thing up there all the time.

I say leave the cab lights on there.

problem is as most have found out the roof on our trucks is VERY weak to hold a basket, IMO to properly do a basket you need to do some roof stiffening

Yes i know the roofs arnt stong at all. I was planing on mounting like Roberto mounted his but a little differnt because the door jam on his 4 door isnt the same as our supercab. or I was also thinking uf using a toyota or explorer roof rail system cut down to size. Id really like to keep this basket just off the roof so its kind of low profile.

I don't like 'em period... but especially on non-crew cab trucks... your truck though so if you like it then go for it!

I'm planning on doing this as well, but on my camper top that I bought......ill be following this thread. I'm not really looking to spend too much on this rack, and this is my current dilemma. I don't have any access to a welder or else I would make my own.
