winch mount done. pics

well after roughly 10 hard hours of working on it today, i now have a winch on my truck. its not the prettiest, but it's not gonna break. tomorrow i'm gonna mask off the bumper and stuff and shoot it flat black. the wires hanging in the front are for my 3 KC's. gonna hook them back up tomorrow. also, i think i'm gonna order the "winch saver" for it. i decided to lose the tow hooks for now because not having them on there cleaned up the front of the truck a lot.

the winch is an 8000 lb ramsey from the late 70's or early 80's. used to be on a tow truck that was barely used. the mount is bolted to the frame with three 1/2" grade 8 bolts. tomorrow i'm going to try it out on something. what made it hard to mount is the winch mounting holes are in the front and back instead of on the bottom.

Not bad man. If you cleaned it up and put even some thin sheet metal (or painted diamond plate) over the front it would look 10x better.

all that 1/2" plate and a paper thin frame.. haha gotta love crush zones.

i would recommend putting tow hooks back on incase the winch fails or you gotta be yanked..

otherwise it looks good!

thanks for the compliments, and i might do some thin diamond plate one day. it would have to be from the front support down though, because i have to get my hands in there to plug the remote, and put it in freespool. i did paint it black today, and it looks 1000% better. i also moved my trailer plugs up so they don't hang down like a sore thumb, and painted my hitch black too.

Love the function, but I don't like the way it look in there. If nothing else paint all the metal black.

Nice, I like the idea and how it doesn't kill your approach angle.

well when i started cutting, i tried to trim as little as i could, but there was no way it was fitting without cutting what i did. and i couldn't move the winch back anymore. like i said, it's not the prettiest, but it will work.

but i tell you what, this is the last winch i mess with that mounts on the front and back instead of the bottom.

i think it looks good. i always think its funny how the people that dont have winches always critisize the way the mounts looks. my winch mount isnt anything special but i know it will hold to get me out of a jam. looks like it serves its purpose. i would put the tow hooks back on so oyu can run a ****** block though. plus its always nice to have a front tow/anker point

well finally tried it out. my buddy had some (big) bushes and a couple trees he wanted to pull out. no pics, but first two came out no problem, just grunted the winch a little. the next two, which i had a feeling wouldn't come out with the winch, didn't. it just pulled the truck lol. its a beast. so i got in my truck and tried pulling in reverse in 4LO. popped the 3/8 chain. so i winched my cable back up and we pulled everything else out with a 1/2 inch chain off my hitch. BUT, i now know my mount isn't going to break and i have full faith in my setup. couldn't be happier with it.
