Where the **** is the switch for the door! My damn door thinks its open and I have reached my limit of frustration.. I need the damn dome light to go out... HELP!!!!!

the switch is part of the latch..
Spray some brake cleaner or something that will evaporate quick in ot the latch and open and close the door afew times ....the contacts in the switch just get dirty... mine does it one a year!

 

if you go with brake cleaner, youd better lube it back up with something or it will have no protection against moisture, but the switch is in your latch. just some WD-40 in there may fix it right up.

 

yeah sorry ...i forgot that part... i use a silicone spray ... but WD-40 works great!

 

I use CRC 3-36 or WD-40 on mine. Yes, it's like an "annual" thing, lol.

As suggested, the switch is built into the door latch mechanism. It's pretty much a common problem.

I'v have soaked both latch's in electric parts cleaner and WD-40.. guess they need more.. this sucks..

Spray it UP into the latch and open and slam the door a bunch of times.

Sometimes the switches go bad -- but that's rare -- usually they just jam.

You're sure it's not on at the dashboard, right? Does your truck ding with the key in? If it does, it's the drivers door; if it doesn't it's the passengers or (if you have a 4 door) one of the back doors (if they have switches?)...

 

not sure if the back doors have switches, there is a mechanism that will only allow them to be opened if the front door is open, i doubt they would have put any type of switch on them.

I have about a half can of WD-40 and half can of electric parts cleaner in there..

Been slamming the door for hours..

It went off twice so far, so it think its jammed..

No its not on on the dash.. checked that.. lol..

There is a fuse for the dome light right?

 

Yes...and no.

Fuse 26 in the cab -- but it's also the dash, the GEM, and the restraints control module...it's not just the dome light.

It'll turn off in 10 to 15 minutes anyway when the power saver relay kicks in.

 

See thats the other problem I seem to be having.. its not shuting off.. its been on for an hour..

 

Yes, the 4-door SC's have door ajar switches on the rear doors. They are in parallel with the PS front door ajar switch.

 

ahh I had this same problem jason. Tell me does your seat belt often get stuck in the door when you close it? I took some wd-40 and soaked both the Latch on the door and inside the door pannel. It took about 35 minutes of opening / closing my door for it to finally kick in but since then I have not had the problem 1 time.

How do I get to this stupid switch?

 

It is part of the latch assembly at the rear of each front door. The 4-dr S/C's also have 2 additional door ajar switches in the latches of the rear doors.

You can spray the latch assembly from the outside without any disassembly. To remove the latch assembly, you must remove the door panels and pull them from the inside. They are a bit of a hassle to remove. I would try spraying and working the latches some more before resorting to that.

 

Yea its a last resort.. but I'm getting desperate..

I have emptied a whole can into the latch..

The dinger dings with the keys in, as john pointed out this is the driver side, could it be the driver side rear causing the problem?

Where exactly is the rear switch (if its not to much trouble)?

 

No, the ignition key sense dinger is only triggered by the driver's side front switch, not the other three.



It's in the latch on the bottom of each of the back doors.

 

Well that pretty much narrows it down to 100% the driver door...
