Sub Box Question - Need some opinions
Sub Box Question - Need some opinions
I have a 10" Rockford Fosgate Punch HX2 sub that requires a sealed box of .2-.75 cu ft. I meant to buy a box that was .7 but somehow I screwed up and bought a box that was 1.0 cu ft. Because this is out of the range of the recommended specs, will this make my sub sound horrible and will I be better off shelling out more money to buy a new box?
Thanks,
Jay
Edit: I have a sealed box not a ported box. Not sure why I said ported

i have 2 of the same subs, i have a box that is 2.5 cu ft with a divider in the middle so 1.25 cu ft for each sub, this box was designed for a different set of subs. the other day i made a new box that was within the spec for these subs it ended up being right at .80 cu ft for each sub. it sounded like *** compared to my old box, so none the less the old box is back in. i think it will sound great with the 1 cuft box you got.
both my boxes were/are sealed
both my boxes were/are sealed
To kind of continue with this, I am wondering what would be better. I guess this is where it turns into opinions more than what actually is better, but I dont care. Opinions please.
Sealed or Vented?
I like Vented, but I heard a good sealed box tonight. please help!

When they are built correctly, for the REAL range of the driver (not what the box says, but rather the REAL range), a ported encloser will kick a sealed enclosures *** all day long.
But, a ported box is a lot more complex. Diameter of port, length of port, side of box, etc, etc. And nothing gets down low like wood.

I agree with going over is better. I remember a buddy of mine that had two 12's and two 10's in a custom box (in and old Ford Mustang hatch back) The subs were ****ty used (litterly like 100$ canadian for all 4) and then like a 400Watt amp and well it pounded, Y, the air behind it. (It was sealed.) so yeah i say if you have the extra air its a good thing for sealed. As for Ported i dont have that much expereince, but i'd think it would throw off the tuning etc.
