cb radio install pics
I finaly got my cb radio installed . I installed the unit between the sunvisors and the whip on the tailgate useing alons mount. I also installed a fuse block in the compartment where the driverside jumpseats would be if i had them.
Alons mount worked ok but it did need to be bent cuz it was hitting the tail gate.
I just notched the black plastic in the back of the light. I also notched the lense cuz it was pinching in the tailgate . The notch could have been very small but I slipped so i had to make it bigger. I routed the coax over the wheel well there are already holes up there perfect for a zip tie and some felt to protect from rubbing the coax.
Getting the bracket up here was really tough but if i had to do it again it would be alot easier . this is not what i did but what you would want to do to install on the roof is VERY carefully mark the bracket where you want it . cut two slits where the bracket arms will come down using a sharp knife. Then cut out the rectangle in the center .... I cut the minumum to get it done which made it super difficult to work with . I'd cut the hole a little larger in the center area next time cuz its under the radio just keep the hole narrow on the two ends where it will be visible later.
The bracket was too short so i got #10x3/4" aluminum spacers from homedepot and put a fender washer on the top and bottom of bracket
the screw i used number #10x1 1/2 " hex head self tappers. its solid but could be better ... i only drilled 2 spots on the high spots of the roof brace. next time instead of the spacers i would hot glue 3/4 inch plywood that fit perfect to the top of the bracket. this would give more surface area and make it really strong . if it ever falls i'll use plywood.
I brought the coax up through the gromet in the floor in back on passenger side and up through a factory notch for wires basicaly right under the seatbelt. up to the door trim and across at an angle infront of the visor . the screws at the visor prevent the wire from falling out at the windshield.you have to lower the headliner to do this .first i went up the a- pillar to avoid lowering headliner but 18' doesn't reach.
A little sticky back felt on the top makes it look a little better and some more felt on the bracket covers the cut in the headliner.I used sticky hooks from the 99cent store on the dome light to hold the mic cord. The kind i have snaps and fully closes which is great its made by super glue.
I mounted it too far tward the windshield . i can lower the visors fine but when you swing them it hits but it works . going to have an upholstery place trim about 1/2 an inch off the end of the visor eventualy.
I couldn't find a place under the hood so this was the best option. It worked out great because the space under the plastic cover at the bottom can be used for a nice service loop i left about 2 extra feet on the wires . it is however a pain in the but to bring wires to it for future accessories like kc lights. I'm going to drill holes in the black plastic cover not shown in the photo and chase the wires through it to give it a more finished look. Also need to trim the excess felt on fuse box i used to stop any rattling noises while offroading.

looks like the slow site got you on the multiple posts !
I like the mount because it requires very little permanant modification . I wanted to go with the ball on the side of the bed like john griggs cuz it looks great but didn't really want to drill a 1" hole in the body. I can always get a new tailight at the junkyard.
the base of the antenna also is slightly protected so i figure it will not get hit as much from brush

maybe your visors are closer together , maybe its a different visor if you have lights in it ... i have no power anything on my truck and no mirrors or extensions in the visor . I'm thinking you can't tell from the pic but the very back of the radio sits appox. in the middle of the visor if its closed . So its like 6 inches from the windshield . It does not fit up at the windshield but the visor is angled . it clears by about 3/16 th of an inch . As i said above its too close to the windshield cuz it hits when i swivel the visor tward the door but it does work ... It would be better about 1 inch further from the windshield .... so look again maybe it will fit.
