CV Joint and Boot Upgrades
CV Joint and Boot Upgrades
I searched the site and check google on trying to find upgraded CV joints and boots. The boots wouldn't be a big deal, they held up fine. I DO want upgraded CV joints if someone makes them. I figured I'd ask to see if anyone had any testimonials on upgraded CV joints(if they exist).
She's getting re-geared, an aussie locker up front, 35"s, and am working with a machine shop to adapt an Eaton M90 for me. I need something that's gonna take what I give it. I know they're not the toughest things by design but I can use every bit of strength I can get.

ah im not 100% sure. you would prolly need the new wheel bearings from a 98-99 and you would need the avm hubs. only thing i dont know is if the cvs are different. I know the spindles are the same. just the older ones have the PVH line. which you would not need.

I thought I read somewhere that you couldn't do that with 00 or 01 and newer.
It's actually very easy... lol All you need are the bearings and hubs from a 98-00 truck... and the axle shafts.
I only know of one upgraded CV and they are the axle that Aaron Dixon uses with his LT kits now. They use a 930 CV. Aaron helped us install a set on my friends truck last month and they are beautiful! (as axles go anyway) But the two downsides... I'm not sure if he can make them in stock length and they cost about $1200 for a set (well worth it though).
So maybe give Aaron Dixon a call (or email) and pick his brain, who knows maybe it is possible.

So to answer the question they are different, the PVH has a machined grove for the snap ring and the Live ones have threads for the nut. I have a set of each here if anybody wants to see photos of what they actually look like and what the differences are.
Are the axle shafts from a 98-00 much different than the 01+'s?
As far as length(shorter/stronger)?
Btw Zach, I drove it about a half mile out of the field and then ten miles home not breaking 35mph. Didn't sound very healthy but I did it.
Anyone have an idea on how much a set of stock shafts cost? 98-00 or 01+?

You can drive with the live axles broken as far and as fast as you want, as long as the outer cv is still bolted to the hub. It may sound horrible, but the cv is already shot so you can't do any more damage to it.
I have a set of each if you want them... lol make me an offer!
So I found two different aftermarket wheel bearings and hub assemblies.....

I guess the only variants are rabs or f&rabs and pvh specific ones, for the vac lines possibly?
Here are the hubs I want, can't beat a lifetime warranty....

Do I need the bearing retention conversion as well?
