Finally had to buy a new battery

Yup. Last week I got stranded in the middle of a parking lot (in 105*+ heat) and she wouldn't start!
Darn thing fired up just fine at the house, but after shopping around for half an hour, went to drive home & all I got was the dreaded click,click,click... of the starter solenoid.
At first I thought it was the solenoid going bad, I had 11v in the cab on my new voltmeter in the radio compartment, and 11v right at the battery.
I guess there just wasn't enough juice left for one more start.

It was a VERY hot day, made even hotter by getting stranded. Luckily I keep a pretty good tool supply (including jumper cables) in the truck, so I was finally able to get a jump start so I could make it to get a new battery.

I had to grab the closest thing in town, so it was off to Wally-World for their top of the line 1000cca battery. $80 later, I'm back on the road.

Why couldn't this have happened when the temp was down in the mid 80's that one day?!

I guess I got my money's worth out of this one. I think I bought it back in 2001, it still had a month of warranty left on it.

if it's an everstart battery then that would be made by johnson controls, who, imho, make the best batteries on the market, including optima..die hard.. etc.

in that kind of heat it's lucky the old battery didn't blow up from leaking gases= big time mess....

My new one is an everstart (just like the old one, just a different color case)... it was the better one of the two types they had. The other one only they sold had a 3yr replacement & 5 or 7yr pro-rated warranty, this one has a 5yr replacement & 9yr prorated warranty.

I read on the net where they were made by the same company that makes batteries for lots of other retailers like sears, optima, autozone, etc.

I just can't justify spending almost $200 on an optima that only has a 3yr warranty. I could buy 2 of these batteries & have enough left over for lunch.

5 year Free replacement? that's pretty damn ballsy of that company. what region of the US are you in? In the southern "hotter" states, the average life span of a SLI is about 2-3 years.

sounds like you got your money's worth to say the least...
autozone ones may be slightly cheaper than wal-mart .. but bottom line they are the exact same battery.

i have a die hard (also the same) in the truck now which was there when i bought it last december.have no idea how old it is ... we'll see how long it can last...

That is one serious warranty for a battery.
Nothing beat my original Ford battery. It was the original from 97 and I just repalced it in 06 and only because it was slowly discharging. Never did it not start on me I just didn't want to get stranded.

Suprisingly, working at midas... we test every battery.. and alot of the times if they are bad, and are everstarts, they go back to walmart and get them replaced... they stand up to thier warrantee....

Of course the color has everything to do with it. Why wouldn't it?

presume that would have been a motorcraft battery.. also made by johnson controls. i'm not surprised at all that it lasted nearly 10 years....
