Front Diff Decision

Ok. So my front diff has been leaking from the front pinion seal for quite some time. I have taken it to Ford many times to have them try and fix it but they can seem to get it right. Also it has been making a clunking noise for a while now too. I have been trying to be easy on it by not offroading and just driving it to work. The noise only happens when I'm rolling back and I start to roll forward. It is defiantly because you can see the movement in the driveshaft. I'm thinking there is too much backlash in the pinion shaft. I was going to have someone just rebuild it but I have been waiting until I paid off some of my credit card. So today I was bored and I just happen to look on ebay and I found one for $250. I figure I can just swap it in myself when I get it. It only has 22K miles on it. I haven't checked around here for any because I figured they would be super expensive. Should I just buy it or rebuild mine? I don't plan on getting a locker or regearing.

Well now that I bought it and I still have it out of the truck, do you guys think I should lock it up? It's only $250.

lockers FTW.. you need like 1/3 of the throttle

ask Casey how much better my truck performed than his and the guides when we went wheelin mainly attributed to the locker

What should I clean the inside with? I'm sure there is nasty old oil in there.

I use just WD40 or something similar. Works fine.
