door ajar...nothin works!

so i have almost had my truck a year now. the first day i got it i pulled the dome light because of the door ajar. a few months ago, i tried the wd-40 trick... didnt work. i sprayed it into any hole, tab, piller. ANYTHING.

i am really started to get sick of pulling out the maglight every time i need light.

maybe something else is required due to the four door?

also, my weather stripping on the pass. rear door is messed up... could that affect this?

thanks!

You probably are going to have to replace the latch assembly if everything else has failed. If the p.s rear door is not closing completely it could cause the light to come on.

mine wouldnt go away yesterday when i was doing the WD40 trick but i just sprayed a bit more everywhere and started slamming all 4 doors and then it was fine. i found it to be the passengers side that caused the problem.

I had the same prob, make sure you shut your suicide door completely. Try to pull in & out, it may still have some give in it - meaning your lower latch didn't catch completely. I know for mine I have to push firmly from the bottom or it will not latch.

I think its cause of a cancerous tumor (rust) starting to form in my lower latch on the rear door.

My dad has an 01 with this prob... he did the same thing removed the dome light. I believe his prob was the suicide door, it had something to do with the way it closes. The ring on the floor of the truck or something that needs replaced but he didn't want to spend the money.

Good luck.

4 doors and 2 doors are the same, it's the stupid door latch light switch or whatever you call that thing, you just need to remove it and clean it, the first time that happened to me i bought it and it only lasted a few months and it started doing it again, i just take it off the latch assy and press the thing a million times while spraying it with whatever i can find, it works great everytime i just don't know why it gets dirty again, actually i was thinking about doing it again today, i'll take pics of the process HTH!

I had that problem, I used Silicon spray in the door jam for about a week and slammed the doors quite a few times and it went away haven't had it come back at all.

My ranger was doing that i brought it to ford and they sprayed all the latches with liquid silicone or some lube, and slammed all the doors a bunch of times and it fixed it

if you do end up replacing the switch it self. i found it easier to replace with the latch in the closed position so you are not fighting the return spring on the switch.
