Fill them cold as high as the Maximum on the tire.

You could do that if you want to wear down the center and ride like *****. I just leave mine at the PSI that makes them wear the best. Keeping expensive tires in good shape is better than gaining 1mpg and riding like crap IMO.
If you do, I would still keep the psi below the max.

this week i rode from detroit to silverlake to chicago adn back and i kept it at 35psi. i got great milage. the dealer puts it at 35 when they check my tires so i stick with it and i don't seem to have an issue with uneven treadware.

thanks guys. im not too worried about wear as the tires are going to be replaced shortly after the trip anyways. More worried about MPG's.

thats only if you have too wide of tires on the stock rim, since he has a stock rim and a stock tire he should run the recommended PSI on the inside of the drivers door or sometimes it is on the fuel door. Or even in the owners manual.

Anything over inflated is going to do that. Basically what I was getting at was stick to the recommended pressure rather than inflating to the max.

agreed.

i wouldn't go for the max pressure either. those tires are going to warm up a lot during the trip you could easly exceed the pressure you originally filled them with. I'd say go 5 psi above what the sticker recommends if anything. since your not worried about the tread. just drive gingerly and you will gain more mpg then what tire pressure would get you.
