I would almost say gasser. But your going to be spending about the same in fuel either way.

Stock Diesel is no fun. I would probably buy a gasser if I was in your shoes.

 

I still have my ranger and i love it but the f150 is a different animal all together, better ride, more power, nice and roomy, trust me you wont regret an f150. And you should be able to fit a dirt bike in a 5.5 foot, we did it in my buddies, you just gotta angle it right and maybe turn the wheel, hell i can fit my raptor in the box and still close the tailgate.

 

yea but my other option is get the diesel and put it back to stock every 2years for the smog check
because with a psd i can run biodiesel and save thousands in fuels

 

A exhaust is a PITA! I had to cut my stocker off.

 

yea thats what i was worried about if i did this i would make a sectioned exhaust so it coul easily be swapped just by bolting and unbolting each section

and its not 1 dirt bike im worried about its 3 lol i did it in the ranger and it was just long enough because the bike in the middle goes in backwards and has to sit farther back so the bars clear the other bikes plus gearbags icechest etc.

which is why ive been looking at the f250 gasser because i can get a crewcab with a 8ft bed im just worried about the truck being underpowered with the 5.4l

 

or... i can get a pre 97 diesel because they arent going to be smogged the problem is finding a 7.3 with less than 150k mi is near impossible

 

I will sell you my F250 for $20,000!!!

If you do end up looking at a gas F250, make sure it's one with the 3-valve engine. There's about a 40hp difference between the 2-valve and later 300hp 5.4L. I'd also suggest the 4.10 axle ratio with any of the gas engines. They are certainly not afraid to rev to 5000rpm. In fact the 3-valave 5.4L in the Super Duty makes peak torque at 3750rpm.

My 5.4L Super Duty has never let me down in over 22,000 miles. Oil changes are less than $30. Mileage is fair.

The way I see it, my 5.4L F250 has a similar power-to-weight ratio as my 1999 4.0L Ranger.

F250 5.4L, 300hp, 365lb.-ft.
Truck weighs 7000lbs
23.3hp per pound; 19.1lb.-ft per pound of truck

Ranger 4.0L, 160hp, 225lb.-ft.
Truck weighed 4000lbs
25hp per pound; 17.7lb.-ft per pund of truck

 

ok thanks thats good to know when looking for a new truck is there any specific years that have that engine.

what kind of mileage are you getting with you 250?

 

2005 got the 3-valve 5.4L engine, as well as the 5-speed TorqShift automatic transmission behind the gas engines.

My 4wd crew cab on 35" tires is getting about 13.5mpg in mixed driving.

 

hmmm ive seen some 05s but they are out of my price range and 13.5mpg is pretty low compared to the PSD with 18mpg
thats even worse then my ranger with 16mpg

im going to talk to a few friends with diesels and see how easy there trucks pass smog and i may just get a diesel because they seem to be so much more economical

 

Yeah, like you said the 7.3L diesels get pretty good mileage. I'd say it's possible to get mileage figures right on up there with V6 Rangers with a 7.3L diesel.

I thought my mileage wasn't too bad considering my 2wd Ranger on 32" tires got about 16mpg, haha. Lot's more truck for about a 3mpg loss.


It's hard to go wrong with a fullsize F-Series truck.

 

definately i get 16-17 with 33s on my 4.0 4x4 ranger so i figure with some work i could easily get 20mpg out of a 7.3l guys have got 24-25mpg before

 

I get 14 MPG in the winter and 20 MPG in the summer. That was only a sort time with my Chip on so I was kind of beating on it lol

 

i finally found a nice truck its a 99 f250 7.3 CC SB 4x4 auto lariat lifted etc. with only 84k miles the guy wanted 17k for it but kbb says 15k privateparty and 17k retail

the lowest he will go is 16.7k is this a good deal btw its at a dealer

 

As long as the truck is in good shape and runs good. It sounds like a good deal.

 

great looking truck its a monster. its lifted 8-10in with 20s and 38in MTZs 5in straighpipe exhaust and DIY intake runs great looks good and is now sitting in my driveway but it does have a few minor issues to fix the major one being the ranger looks like a toy compared to it lol

I bet the front end eats ball joints though with 38s.

 

i actually had them put on new tint front and rear so it looks better these pics dont do this truck justice the paint is actually metallic black its beautiful

im actually thinking about stepping down to a 37x13.5 because these 38x15.5 rub the leafs pretty bad plus the truck could be a little bit smaller... its 8ft tall

looks to tall to be practicle for towing and stuff but it does look good. IMO
