I have owned an 02 ranger xlt 4wd for about 3 years now.It has been one of the most dependable vehicles I have ever owned.I am considering trading for a similar 06 model.I would like to hear pros-cons between the 02's and 06's.Thanks.

 

We need more details. What engine, is the 06 an xlt also? You will lose that awesome powerdome hood!

 

Pretty much the same trucks.Both 4.0's 5 speed manual.Must admit,I like the style of the 02 better.

 

Not much has changed. I think the 2002 4.0 still had the timing change problem, the 06 wont have that problem.

 

Mechanically they're the same trucks. Only the aesthetics changed (tail lights, front corner lights, mirrors, grill, and larger Ford and Ranger emblems)

 

06 trucks look better cus of the new tails. I'm partial tho. As for the powerdome, i didn't know about that when I bought mine in 08 and it didnt really bother me. The grill also looks better, it's larger and cuts into the hood.

 

I went to take another look at the 06 this morning.Deceided to keep my 02.It still only has 92k and runs as good as new.As I said,it has been the most dependable truck I ever owned so,Why trade?

 

I know you made your decision already but the 06 has a little larger brakes in the front. The 06 also has thicker glass to reduce outside nise from intruding into the cab. This also adds a little weight to the 06.

I have over 168K miles on my 02 with most maintenance type repairs. I am getting due for ball joints soon but otherwise doing good. I am partial to the 02 styling too.
