08 intake mod
1 Attachment(s)
I went out to Ace today and bought 5ft of 4" dryer vent tubing stuff for $10. My truck is a 08 xlt scsb 2.3 with a manual. So the 08+ bumpers have huge round plastic trim plugs in the bumper to cover where fog lights go on other models (4x4's).
Attachment 125180 I removed the passenger side trim cover and then trimmed some of the plastic to open the hole in the bumper almost completely. not much trimming I just took a blade off a hacksaw and held it with my hands because its such an awkward area to get a blade into. I kept 2 of the 3 mounting holes that the trim piece bolts into so i can reverse the mod and not destroy a clean 08 bumper. The vent tube got zip tied and then I threw a shot of black spray paint in the vent tube so it wouldnt look worse then the trim I removed. Next I had to move the harness wires that run to the horn which is split off from the head light harness wires and runs down along the rad core support then all the way up behind the grill and to the horn. I unplugged it then pulled it out from behind the grill and ran it over top. This also pulled the wires from the head lights up and opened up space for the vent tube. With convincing I snaked the vent hose up behind the headlight and through the area where the intake silencer use to be. I removed the stock air box and with a dremel open up the stock size opening under the air filter. I reinstalled the air box and slid the dryer tube threw the hole into the air box. I took it out on the pch and it seems to have increased throttle response a little doing a 3rd gear pull at wot from 40 before and after. Im sure it probably doesnt really do anything but it only cost $10 so ill leave it for a bit and drive around. and no i have a go phone so i dont have a phone cam to take pics and my sister went away for the week and took our camera so i wont have picture proof for a minute |
Seriously?
That's a LOT of work for either no change or decreased performance. |

I still can't believe I read through all that... for nothing.

maybe if you had exhaust too it might help. but on a 2.3 you might have hindered the performance.
|
UD pulleys?
|
i know when i started that i prolly wouldnt gain a horse power out of it and even if i did i wouldnt know the difference. im not blocking anything and the inlet to the air box itself being enlarged wont do enough to actually hurt performance so im not worried about negetive effects. even with 2.5" mandral exhaust and a flow thru muff or under drive pulleys it wouldnt be any faster then stock. i did it just to do it

its a start. I thought about doing that a long time ago but didn't see enough room between the grill & header panel area. can't wait to see more pics.

so explain how letting fresh air into the airbox is a bad thing? please. im interested in this.
|
Can i see some pictures of this please??

I will never understand how people are so damn cheap that they start using dryer ducting and **** to try on their vehicles.

Make sure the hose doesn't collapse when you rev the motor.
