1997 ford explorer clutch problem

When the truck is on I push the clutch down seems soft and it will not switch gears it feels like the clutch didn’t disengage so the pedal is soft the master cylinder was empty when I checked and I don’t see any leaks after I poured fluid it starts but won’t go into gear can someone help me

These clutches need fluid to work properly. If your master was empty the only thing it could do was draw air into the system and air will not work. If there was no fluid there is a leak somewhere. Fill reservoir with some fluid and if it was empty you will need to bleed the system to get the air out of the line. Be advised, these systems are notorious for being hard to get the air out of the line with the master cylinder still in the truck. These systems have a bend in the line that wants to trap air.

There's several good videos out there that are really informative. IMO, one of the best is from Perfection Clutch.
