truck upgrade

well, i've been looking to upgrade to a full size truck for the past year and a half, but couldn't b/c of my loan, so i just recently bought a house this past august and got that 8k IRS return. so i was cruisin by the ford dealership in town and saw this truck so i whipped in to take a look at it. i looked it over and it had a couple of flaws but nothing major. so a salesmen walks up and starts talking to me. so i test drive it and didn't hear any mechanical problems or anything. just seemed like a really nice truck. so we go run numbers and talk to insurance and stuff. and by 5:30pm tuesday 11-3-09, i drive home in an 01 chevy 3500 dually 2x4 w/ an lb7 duramax and allison 1000!!!!!!!! i'm so excited!!! i've been trying to get a diesel for so long and i finally got one. i dont have pictures on here yet but i'll try to get some tommorrow. i've been working from sun up to sun down since i got it so tommorrow i got some time off i'll try to remember to get some.

Why did you go from a Ranger to a dually out of curiosity. Do you really need to tow that much?

Diesels are cool...but duallys suck. Unless you need to tow grips of heavy stuff.

A duramax would have been my last choice also, but as long as you like it.

i've got two horses and i needed a truck that could pull them. and i needed more space. me and nicole have to travel sometimes w/ the dogs and luggage the rangers were just too small.i could've just gotten a 1/2 ton but i wanted a diesel. so i could've gotten a 3/4 ton but i got a really good deal on this truck.and i like duallies. i think they look good fixed up. plus it's not a DD. i got a 94 2.3 5 spd ranger from my dad a few months ago.

i would've liked to get a cummins w/ a 6 spd but all the ones i could find in my price range have really high mileage and they were trying to sell them like they were gold. i like the duramax. powerstroke would of been my last choice unless it was a 7.3. and those are being sold w/ high mileage like they are made of gold too.

Good choice. I got a ton of friends that have duallys. Just watch out...on those 01+ chevy's, the bedsides are one piece. So no replacing JUST a dually fender like on Dodge's and Ford's. (exclude the 2010+ HD dodges though...they're one piece now too). And well.....both my friends with 01+ Chev duallys, their bedsides are fuuuuuked. lol.

sorry for the confusion. no i didn't need the dually but it was a good deal and will handle any task i need it to. and i have considered to start towing crap for people as sort of a side gig.

yeahi noticed that. this ones pass. side fender has been repaired. before. it has two small places at the ends of were it had been broken before were it is showing a bit of crack. i want to either fix it or get a flat bed for it. i dunno though. we'll see, it's not really that noticeable. a little touchup paint and it'll be ok.

Nice!

Congrats!

Nice looking truck! I had 2 different (both 7.3) Ford diesels over the last 15 years or so and though I liked them I couldn't bring myself to buy another what with engine problems Ford has had with the newer ones. Don't even get me started on the tranny's.

I love my GMC 3500 with the Duramax/Allison. It easily out-tows either of the Fords that I had, and both of them were not exactly stock. It handles my 13,000 lb. 5th wheel without complaint. So don't let the detractors who haven't driven the dmax/allison combo get you down.

Duallies are just bad-***! Only down side is buying new tires, and I hope you like hand washing. That is a lot of sheet metal!

yeah tires will suck. but the delaer i got it from just put 6 new shoes on it before i got it so that will be awhile. eh i usually hand washed my truck anyway. all of it isn't sheetmetal though. the whole bedsides are fiberglass.. which sucks. i want to put a flat bed on it though..the floor of the bed has seen better days. and the right rear of the fender is cracked were someone had repaired it and repainted it but did a crappy job. but its not too noticable
