2005 Ranger FX4 Level II - Questions About Mileage, How Much is Too Much?

I have been searching for the perfect Level II for a while now. I have come across one that I love everything about. However, the mileage seems high to me. It has 89,000 miles. To those of you that have this many miles on your 04+ 4.0 SOHC / SJB trucks, have you had any problems to note? What should I look for? I know the normal things to look for: check the passenger side floor board for wetness, check the front diff for a pinion seal leak. Anything else?

I have 91,000 on my 04 Level II, the only problems I have ever gotten were drivetrain...but that's cause I get stupid and hook trucks and mud with it all the time. Never had any problems other than that.

When I bought my 05 Level II it had about 95,000 miles on it. Its now up to 111,000 and the only problems I have had are the slave cylinder, which is fairly common, and a cracked valve spring at 100,000 miles which was most likely just a fluke. Probably a flawed spring from the factory that finally gave out on fatigue.

I wish I could afford to drive my truck that hard haha. Nah I just used the truck as a DD and it was all stock at the time. I was driving in the correct gear and everything, then BAM, no more compression in cylinder 5.

I'm really looking forward to getting this truck, as it is very clean and bone stock. The only thing that has been installed is a factory Ford under the rails bed liner.

This one is an automatic. I need something that my wife can drive too. It's white exterior, with red insert interior.

Doesn't sound to bad, but I would go with a 5-speed and teach her. Screw automatic slipomatic transmissions. Your choice though, good luck

Towing is rated a little more on the auto as well. If you knew my wife, you wouldn't want her driving a 5spd. No offense to her of course, she would probably tell you the same thing.

How much do they want for it?

I sold mine with 85,000 and had 0 issues with the engine. Think I had 0 with the entire truck if I remember right.

That is the issue. They have it advertised for 13,995. I agree that the price is too high for the mileage. I'm still contemplating.

youll say that when you slave cylinder goes out and you pull the tranny to replace a stupid part that should be on the outside, the 5r55e owns the mazda 5 speed in everyway. never had one problem wheeling at all and autos do not disconnect power from the drivetrain which can come in handy. that truck looks pretty clean. just make them a offer.

I had so many issues with my auto. I bought the truck with 30k and by 40k it was already shifting stupid. at 50k it was throwing od lights. also, the asking price is a few posts up

after owning my 02 for almost 6 years and this truck for about 4 months now, I have not looked back.

You will have way more problems with an automatic transmission off roading than you could even dream of with a standard, and my defintion of off-roading is going hard core pedal to the medal off-roading, not dirt road drive.

Anyway, that price is outrageous. I got mine for 11,500 with 62,000 on it.....but My family has also worked and been a part of Ford for a long time so I did get a deal. But thats still way to high

I have had both auto and manual. I had a manual 2005 XLT 4x4 super cab and an automatic 2005 FX4 off road. To be honest, I loved the automatic. For the type of driving I do, the auto is definitely easier. I will not be doing much off roading at all, unless we get some snow; and snow in NC is rare.

I looked at a 03 in 2004 that had 20k on it for 18,000

I would offer them 10k OTD

Exactly, a automatic would be totally fine for you.

That is a great looking truck! I agree that price is way high though, whats the KBB on it?

Trade In Value: 10,350
Private Party Value: 12,910

It is a Carfax 1 owner vehicle. As you can tell it's clean. I just haven't found one like this around me (not modified, and clean), other than this one.
