Haha the responses are priceless. I think it's funny the 4x4 guys talk so much sh*t even though most of the time they leave there truck in 2WD when off road and only switch to 4x4 in the deep stuff. I figured I would make the group because, honestly, we have a ton of 2WD members who Prerun and Offroad. I mean a ton.

hey Melt so is there anything you did to your drivetrain to go places like that, mine doesn't do that good, mine is stock drivetrain, i've never gone mudding in a 4X4 but i love it when i go through mud with mine i love how it fish tails like the whole time and you find out you cant turn and plow down an apple tree, haha, i love it

bump for 4x2 love

BUMP, ever since the spindle lift I've felt high and mighty LOL.
I need to hit a mild trail and a little mud hole. I wants to off road! I also need to remember I have a 2WD 4 cylinder on mild ATs with a LS unit that only works when it wants HAHA |
haha last time i took my 2wd ranger off road, it spun a bearing, about 20 feet from the end of the trail, it was good though i was riding in this nice deep rut on the side which i ran though on the way down, it was great up until the bearing spun. lol.
|
ill be more willing to join this group once i get back on my 32's, and get an LS and JD traction bars
|
Pshhh, you're lifted so you're good to go LOL

Any of the members of this great group has a 2.3 inline 4 (of course 2wd) running on 30' or 31' bfg's? I'm looking for some feedback about mpg drop and power response loss on the gas pedal...
Im just a few months away from getting a 31x10.5 bfg km2 and dont wanna screw up my ride |
depends on which gears you got ... if you got 4:10's it should be fine, but another member here with a 99 with the 2.5 put em on with 3:73's and it hurt a bit on gas.
|
I have a Dana 44 with 4:56 Gears, dont know if this is better for this purpose than a 4:10??
|
with 4.56s you would be fine up to 33s.
go for it! |

My trucks a 2.3L 2wd with 31's(not bfg's) gutless on stock gears but still drivable, highway mileage goes up, city milage goes down.If you wanna keep your truck in the same powerband as it is stock I would bump up your gear ratio. Since your truck came stock with 4.56's i would bump up to 4.88's.After i regeared mine from 4.10's to 4.56's it almost feels stock as far as power goes, Mpg's are close to what i got stock.
What size are your stock tires? The Noth American 4 cylinders come stock on 225/75R15's I saw 4.56s would be fine for 31s. it will feel different that stock for him but considering 4.0 guys run 4.88s with 35s I don't think that would be a good move for 31s lol |

I´ve learned more from this last posts than what I´ve learned about gears in a month.
So in conclusion: - Up to 31´ tires I can go with my stock gears, I wont harm a lot mpg and power, but it will be slight noticeable a decrease in both. - I should regear up to 4.88 if I want to keep the stock performance in mpg and power band. And just like always.... the money will have for shure the last word. I think I cannot afford the new regearing right now, So I might just go with 30" instead of 31". considering that my truck came with 235/75 R15 (almost 29") that should not be a problem. (and actually I use to tow around 2K lb with my Ranger) And I´ll wait for the regearing until I can afford a locker too. Then I will only have to open de diff one time. Thanks for sharing your expertise. |

And chevy guys run 4.10's on 35's!! Ford set that truck up with a higher ratio for a reason best to keep it there. If he hauls or tows with that thing it will put more stress on the drivetrain.
