just kind of curious. i dont ever recall seeing a 4.0 in a regular cab, and was just wondering if the 3.0 was the biggest motor they put in em.

thanks.

I do believe they didnt put the 4.0 in Reg. Cabs from 2002-200?...I cant remember what years, but it wasnt until recently that they started offering the 4.0 in a Reg. cab again if I remember correctly. I remember them being offered in the new version 4.0 in 01 and then Ford stopped for some reason for a couple of years...I had a buddy who had a 01 2wd edge with the 4.0...He would blow the doors off of my 01 4x4 Ext cab. 93-97 the old 4.0 was available in a Reg. Cab. I do know you couldnt get the 4.0 in a reg cab, I just cant remember the years...I do know it was 2002-2006,7 and it may have been 2003-200?

98-00 I couldnt tell you, but I'm pretty sure you could get the 4.0 in a Reg. Cab for those years

a handful of 2001 Ranger Edge reg cabs got the 4.0L, but it was supposedly a glitch that they were ever ordered that way. The 4.0L was also used in some fleet (XL trim) long bed Rangers. IIRC Ford recently started making it available again in a non-XL trim, but 4x4 only.

for the 08 XL, 4.0 is optional.

A very select few regular cabs got a 4.0.

Captain Obvious has a 4.0 in his 3rd Gen stock, along with a couple others on RPS. Don't quote me on this but I believe someone on RPS has a Splash Reg Cab with a 4.0L & 5 spd.

My buddy drove an 05' EDGE I think it was, reg cab short box 4.0 5 spd, he hardly likes Rangers and said it would be a killer to street race if it could ever get traction.

I thought I read somewhere that stock they do low 15's . . . a flareside, 2wd, XLT with hardly any options could be an easy high/mid 14 second truck if provided info is true . . . traction would be the main concern I imagine.

The holy grail of rangers imo, (excluding a 03 level 2 w/ manual trans that isn't sonic blue)....

would be a '03 XL, 2wd, regcab, shortbed, 4.0L, 5spd, black. bare bones. BAM!

not the gay front end on 04+ trucks(i mean no hate by that comment), upgrade it to a powerdome hood and edge/4x4 grille, edge bumper, better interior, better gauges. stuff changed in 03 compaired to 02, and WAY more stuff changed in 04. Changed gayer imo since i'm used to an 01.

Fixed...

BTW IMO 03s are one of the best, some fixed design of 01-02, and has the older electrical system which allows for several modifications. 04-05 is ok, i really like 06-08 though.

I think my 2.3 5 speed in a reg cab short bed is pretty fun to drive not the power of a 4.0 by far but its peppy as all get out and it gets great gas mileage to.

in addition to all of the above mentioned about it the last year for alot of good things I think the most coveted since he mentioned manual trans would be the manual tranfer case option that was available on the
02-03 FX4 level II's .

IIRC Ford recently started making it available again in a non-XL trim, but 4x4 only.
