<3 rangers...

so im curious about a near death experience i had today

i was doing 30 miles per hour tops, and i had the strangest thing happen. my wheen assembly fell off.

im talking the whole nine yars, rotor, caliper, and about 2 feet of break cable.

had a head on collision with a little honda and totaled the ranger i believe its a 2009 ford ranger, chain store maintained and has less then 12k miles all ford recommeded maitnence has been completed on time, im just curious why this happend lol. has any1 else had this problem? it was a straight road no pot hole or nothing. luckily the other car with 3 young kids wasnt hurt to bad but yeah, my boss said something about a bad bearing or something because it all came off in one big chunk?? lol.. ill try to upload pics of the carnage when my boss gets them developed.

WOW. That's some scary stuff. I take it it's not your truck, but like a company truck?

Sounds to me Ford owes someone a new truck... If that part hasn't been touched by anyone since it left the showroom floor, totally sounds like a warranty claim to me. That is if it is that new of a truck with that low of miles.

What could have happened, assuming it's the normal run of the mill base model 2wd fleet truck, was the wheel bearing was set too tight from the factory. Overtime and long drives, this causes heat. Heat burns away grease. Grease is gone much more heat builds, eventually causing the bearings to seize. Seized bearings caused the spindle that the brakes and bearings ride on to snap. Thus throwing the wheel with the brakes attached to them. That's my theory.
