Bagged 01 Edge... or a motorcycle?

There's a guy on base selling a bagged 01 Edge (black, with everything blacked out) for $7,500. I really like his truck and want it, but I've also been looking forward to getting a 2003 Honda CBR600RR (black) for a while. I can't decide wether to buy his truck and sell mine (which I'd only get $5500 for, tops.) or keep my truck and buy the bike. Any advice?

Good question.
I own 2 Victory M/Cs and 2 trucks.
The thing you need to do is figure out if you really are going to ride the bike. My first bike about 20 years ago I rode a lot in the beginning. Once the clutch went I didn't ride for 15 years. This year I rode my '03 Victory to CA in 3 days from CT. I really enjoy riding my bikes now. Of course both of them are V-Twin Cruisers.
Are you going want to ride in the rain? Are you going to feel confortible when people say, "I didn't see you." If they didn't see you on a m/c they ran a 12 year old over that was carrying a very bright flashlight. You said "on the base", am I to assume you are in the service. If you get orders to ND next year will you be happy riding about 3 months a year but making payments for 12? (if you finance) Do you already have any m/c experince?
Remember when you buy the m/c you have added expense. Helmet, safety vest on base, leathers and/or rain gear. Insurance policies for the truck and bike. Have you called to find out how much your bike insurance will be? Plus an m/c has "limited" use.

Just food for thought.

If you buy the truck, you'll probably continue to put money into it. If you buy the bike, my guess would be that the mods would be more minimal and cost less. Just my guess based on what I'd do. I've always wanted a bagged truck and I've always wanted a bike, so I can't say what I'd do either.

but a bagged edge for only 7500... something has to be wrong with it. And a bagged truck in New Orleans isnt the smartest thing in the world... but from driving a stock suspension to a layin frame suspension is 2 different kinds of driving. Do u have any pix of this bagged edge?

I also have a YZF R6 Limited edition. I love the bike and I have fun riding it,But I have thought about selling it many times. I havent yet but still thinking about it. There are times when a sport bike can get you into a lot a trouble(tickets) If you actully stop. Also on your insurance the bike is not cheep if your under 25. So I would say that you would have a better time with the truck..You can still pick up girls just as good in a sweet ranger.

Get the bike. Bike are a lot of fun. I've riden since I was 14 (yes, before I could drive) and have had my SV1000S for the past 3 years.

Weigh each decision.....my opinion is the bike though.

Well, I'll be in New Orleans for the next 3 years, so weather isn't a problem. I am worried about the streets around here with bags. And I took a closer look at the Edge today. There are a few things that need to be done with it. The front Valance needs paint, the interior isn't in the best condition, and the tonneau is ripped in some places.
My roommate might be buying the same truck I'm lookin at, but he originally wanted to lift the truck he gets, but he knows that I can help him with pretty much anything on a Ranger, so he's leanin toward the Edge. Especially since it's a good deal. I've wanted the bike for a long time now, and I think it's time I got what i deserve. Thanks guys.

You only live once. Enjoy it. If you can float the payment, do it. Worst thing is it will be repoed and your credit fawked. Or you have to sell it. Either way your still living and you can do the other option later. Thats what drove me to trade in my truck for a Jetta. I wanted it so I got it. I can afford it, so the worst thing to happen would be I change my mind and sell it to buy another big truck.

I woudl get the bike but that's me. I had an 04 600rr back in 04 and of the umpteen 600's I have owned, the RR was the best one for the type of riding I do. Just pay attention to the people around you because they won't do it for you.

haha tell him to have fun lifting a truck thats been all cut up for bags.

Personally a bagged edge isnt worth 7500. Its prob as low as my truck is with a static 5/6

The 2 1/2" scar over my left eye is telling me to say get the truck... so are 3 of my ribs and my left collar bone that I broke 3 yrs ago when I got ran off the road. The driver never even stopped. The truck will be around you, protecting you. On a bike, you're protecting it.

Being 30 yrs old now and looking to buy a house, my pocket says if you're happy with the truck you got now, save your money and keep what you got. Ten years ago, I was in a similair situation and now I wish I had of just saved my money and kept what I had.

But it's your money, do what ever. If you do get the bike, wear a helmet always. I definitely would not be here if I didn't have mine on. You never think it's going to happen to you until it does.

It sucks growing up... you loose your hearing, but start hearing more voices.

Oh, I'm very safety consious (sp?). My dad got in a very bad accident a few years back, and the results have changed the way I look at bikes and how dangerous they are.

I also have a bike...they're fun but dangerous.

If it's your first bike, then don't get it. If you want to get into bikes, get a smaller/older one to learn on and check to see if you really like motorcycles. It's not all about speed, it's not all about looking cool. It's all about riding the motorcycle. If that's where you find yourself, and you acknowledge the dangers associated with it, THEN buy the new 600rr.

If it's your first bike, and you're not willing to go through all that, then get the bags.

I say pass on both, keep the truck you have, but if you really need to get one of the two go with the truck.
