Hi,
For a view month I have the ABS light on. When I push the break pedal the ABS light is giving a bit more light.
I can not find a garage or Ford dealer here in the Netherlands who is able to read the codes. They only can read WDS or something like that.

The ranger is having RABS only. I visualy checked the wires and all seems to be oke. Is there a method to check or test the sensor or other parts of the abs system?

Are there any common issues for this type of ranger concerning ABS light on?

Where should I start with trouble shooting?

I do have a Haynes manual but the description in there is not quit clear to me.

First, verify that the brake fluid level is at the maximum mark. The brake indicator may come on when the fluid is below the midpoint between max and min.

Second, verify that fuses 10 and 15 are intact and that the ground is OK. The ground point is at the right end of the dashboard, probably under the kick panel trim.

Third is the RABS sensor on the top of the rear axle housing. Without having the trouble code available, you can only guess at the cause. The RABS sensor is the most common failure. It is easy to change and it is not an expensive part, at least not in the U.S.

Beyond that, you could check for continuity on the 2 wires that run from the RABS sensor to the RABS module.

The RABS Module itself could be at fault but it is the last place you should look. The module rarely fails and it is the most expensive part to replace in the system.

The above information applies to Rangers sold in North America. Hopefully yours is NA spec or similar.

Thank you for the quick response on my question.
I ordered a RABS sensor to be sure its oke. I will check and folow your suggestions.

Today problems started that the "check enigine" light came on, driving on the highway about 80 mph. It went out also again. And later it start burning again. Wonder what that could be.

when i bought my truck last summer, the abs light was on, i filled up the master cylinder and it went off.....cheap easy fix.

try that first.

you go to ford, and they may tell you you need a new master cylinder when it is low.

Assuming that the diagnostics of your 93 Ranger are set up like 93 North American Fords, the engine trouble codes can be pulled without using a special code reader. Here is an explanation:

Thanks for all the advise, I have checked al the leads, connections and fuses. Also I have checked the brakefluid level, it is all oke . I have read the article about reading computer codes with an analog multimeter. I have to study that once again to understand that completely.

The next step for me is to change the rabs sensor with will arrive early next week.

If that does not that help I wil try to readout the codes as described in the article.

Does anybody know whre the RABS test connector is located? (in the center, under the dasbord?)

Is it possible to measure the resistance of the RABS sensor?

The test connector is under the dash, taped to the harness near the parking brake pedal assembly. I don't have any information on how to use it.

The resistance of the RABS sensor is given as ~1400 ohms.

Hi all,

The breakflued level is on top so that could not cause the problem.

Just replaced the RABS sensor for a new one but no luck, the rabs light is still on. When I push the break pedal the abs light is shining brighter. That is strange I think, that looks like a wiring or a ground connection problem. I only can not find that kind of problem.

Is it so that you have to reset something when the sensor is replaced? Or is the is the abs light automaticly going off when de circuit or system is oke again?

Are the failurecodes stored in the main computer or in the RABS Module? Is it possible to read out the RABS module?
