air filter

I need help guys, I don't know where my air filter is under the hood, or how to even take it off to change it. I bought the truck brand new, it now has 96,000k on it and i'm very sure the air filter has never been changed or cleaned. I just can't seem to locate the damn thing:)

if you are looking under the hood it is on the far left side towards the front of the truck it is in a black box. It has latches that hold the cover on just reach down and undo the latches and pull the cover up and to the right because the top part has slots that hold it down on to the bottom. It's really easy!

96,000 is alot of miles to to not change an air filter. Have you changed the oil?
Its not that hard to find the air filter box. its connected to the giant rubber tube.

Bunji 04-27-2008 11:29 AM

Thanks so much, i'm gonna go outside now and see if I can do it.
But last time I was at my local auto parts place they didn't even have air filters for Rangers. So even if I learn that my filter is dirty I won't even be able to buy a replacement:) AHAHAAH Canada makes me laugh sometimes.

Yeah I do my own oil changes, that's a piece of cake. I don't even have to jack up the truck because it's so high I can just crawl underneath and start draining:)lol thanks for the help though dude.

96,000 kilometers (not miles) that's just under 60,000 miles

swamper06 04-27-2008 11:35 AM

Are you serious? You can change your oil but not your air filter and haven't found it after 96,000?

Machine090767 04-27-2008 12:01 PM

you haven't changed air filter in 96,000km.? "sir, please turn in your keys. you are banned from owning a motorized vehicle"

04blackedge 04-27-2008 12:15 PM

Bunji 04-27-2008 02:13 PM

you didnt drive to the auto parts store with the filter out did you?

Bunji 04-27-2008 05:45 PM

No I didn't but I was gonna ask a question along those lines.......Is it bad to drive with no filter at all? what will happen?

whippersnapper02 04-27-2008 05:46 PM

Well with no filter your are letting all the crap floating in the air get inside your engine. Our air is not exactly clean. So all the crap will start clogging everything.

I don't think I can afford to change my air filter every 4000k, I paid 30 bucks for this one and it says I don't have to change it until 20,000k. It says it's a performance filter (FRAM PLATINUM) but judging from guys on this forum say about fram apparently they're crap.

whippersnapper02 04-27-2008 05:52 PM

I used to change my oil every 3000 miles(4828.032 km) but I started changing it at every 5000(8046.72).

Bunji 04-27-2008 05:55 PM

8000k ???????? wow thats long, must be runnin' synthetic?

Anyways, I just recently started bonding with my truck, I never really cared about it until one day I just took a minute and looked at it, and realized what a nice looking machine I owned. So now I started spending more quality time with my truck. I want to do sooooooo many mods but I don't know where to start. I already have a system but It's gonna be a b**** to install it.

whippersnapper02 04-27-2008 05:57 PM

Yes sir. Castrol full synthetic with a quart of Lucas.

99_NWRanger 04-27-2008 06:18 PM

Yeah I should be able to go a little longer between oil changes since I've been running Amsoil. Bunji you got a pic of your truck?

Bunji 04-27-2008 06:23 PM

I can take a pic in a couple minutes, It's totally stock 2006 black sport, no bed cover. The only thing I've done to it so far is neon blue led interior lights.

My system is laying here ready to go in, but I can't seem to find a good spot to run wires through the firewall. I fear this is gonna be a real headache just to do a very simple stereo system installation.
