This is crazy, but I am too. I installed a set of headlight bulbs for my backup lights. My euros came with a grey plug that fit into the extra top bulb slot, since I only needed 2 bulbs( I wired that one up too to work for brake/turn signal). I took the grey plug and drilled it out to fit a headlight bulb, and superglued it in, and soldered the wires to the reg. reverse lights, it's bright and nice, and no problems.
The top clear spot = I have a red led bulb wired for turn/brake
Middle = regular running/brake/turn
Bottom = reverse headlights

I back up real fast. No, actually they don't get that hot, and the space in the lense is fairly large, it's the same deal as in a headlight.
They've been in there over a year now, no problem at all.
If it burns out, i'll just rip it out, redrill and reglue a new one.

correct
Actually, I put them on one time for at least 10 min to do something in the dark on my other friend's ranger, didn't smell any burning, harmless. But just think about it, a headlight is the same idea.

The wires are the same gauge as my headlights.

Not just Ranger headlights, look at Ranger foglights, the space is pretty small. Some car headlights are fairly small. Look at an acura integra, they have those small circles, probably less space than my lights, plus i'm not running my lights for periods of time greater than 20 sec.
