Is anyone a techy?

3.0L 2000 ranger 2WD.... is there anything i can/should disconect to allow the engine to run faster/smoother? valves, electrical stuff etc? Im not looking for a supercar but there are parts I have heard that really rob you of performance..idk so I asked yall

ES894x4 11-28-2010 01:35 PM

you could convert to manual steering, and delete the ac?

i didnt know you could unplug things to make your valves run smoother

sniper_101 11-28-2010 01:52 PM

Electric fan, headers with full exhaust, intake system, porting your heads, X-Cal programmer, gears, shed as much weight on the truck as possible, change bumper for rollpan, etc.

What about BOSS 3.0's tech stuff from RPS, it should have some cheap upgrades and stuff.

However, if I remember correctly from the nearly identical thread you posted a couple week ago, you had a ton of maintenence stuff to do but wanted to to mods first . . . the performance mods won't help a bit if the truck isn't being maintained to at least OEM spec.

STUPIDHEAD11 11-28-2010 02:23 PM

oh its in tip top shape. I regularly flush and change fluids and am car savvy enough to know how to properly work on and maintain a vehicle but anything more than that is not up my alley, so this is why i post. already removed A/C, im not wiling to purchase tuners because of the cost (I want to but cant afford) and i have taken a grinder to her on more than one occasion to remove weight. just lookin for stupid ideas, ive got nothing better to do, unemployed and in school so what else is there to do...oh thats right ;)

annguyen1981 11-28-2010 04:40 PM

Aren't you the one that's getting rid of the Ranger in 8 months? Just sayin'.

STUPIDHEAD11 11-28-2010 07:47 PM

nah dad's tacoma, shes monstrous

Masteratarms93 11-28-2010 08:50 PM

hummm you could mess with the exhaust. do some stuff with the intake and MAF.

STUPIDHEAD11 11-29-2010 02:37 PM

i have chewed several holes in the front side of the air box and cleaned the MAF and bought new filter, and just yesterday I disconnected Cat back exhaust cuz 1. it sounds meaner and 2. wont it give me better gas with less back pressure? if im wrong let me know i dont want to ruin my truck

01RangerEdge 11-29-2010 03:06 PM

Are you running straight exhaust now?

If so, no, you have no improved anything. If anything, truck won't run as good, engine are tuned from the factory to account for backpressure

if your running a dumped y-pipe then yes your most likely going backwards in hp, but will you hurt the truck no. you lost scavenging which is what matters. cut the muffler off your cat back and have a shop weld in a straight pipe to replace it.

STUPIDHEAD11 11-29-2010 07:18 PM

well as I see it I have 3 "boxes" on my exhaust, one is cat and im guessing other 2 are muffler/silencers..? right? so after the first 2 boxes there is a joint and i simply disconnected the joint and took the pipe from the joint back to the tail and shifted it aside from the pipe that is in use, yes it is wide open and yes its loud but i have noticed a severe lack in power. so i used the press and chopped a circle of 16g sheet metal and bolted it onto the open end, the sheet metal hole is smaller by about 1/6 of and inch all the way around, i hoped this would give me a little back pressure. am i wrong in doing this? should I reconnect the pipes? if i do reconnect how would i get back to sounding similar to what it is now? thank you guys

01RangerEdge 11-29-2010 07:32 PM

All cats

just reconnected what you cut

i'd prolly have a shop do it

mateo 11-29-2010 08:01 PM

WTF?

Troll :someone who posts controversial and usually irrelevant or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum or chat room, with the intention of baiting other users into an emotional response[1] or to generally disrupt normal on-topic discussion.

Or he just might be brain-dead and incompetent.

Yea, cause it's "cheaply made". Anyway it runs circles around yours because you have a 2wd 3.0......I have a buddy with a project ranger that I would bet against any off road quarter-ton truck. The only ranger I know of that would compete is Zabeards...lol. My point is I hate toyota and their trucks are an epci fail IMO.
