Awsome Finds, Trepaul Read

Ok i called a local junk yard...they have some explorer sports and sport tracs..they're 00 or 01.....Will that be compatable with my 99??They have a 00 white cluster, OHC, visors, and a full console i can buy for roughly $200.......

Tre or shane, is this a good price for all that....And the guy told me 00+ clusters wont work on -00 because the antitheft or soemthing....he said i need to pull my cluster out, unplug it and see if my truck will crank, to see if the 00 cluster will work??

Ever heard of that??

04blackedge 05-22-2008 01:07 PM

Yep they sure will. I'm working on my full console right now. Thats a great price for all that stuff. That cluster will work with your truck too

TrePaul86 05-22-2008 02:04 PM

Everything will work just fine up until the changed the shape of the clusters in 02 or 03 I think...

I would say that's a damn good deal...

I know for just the OHC and console can cost you over $150 easily because a lot of places will charge $100 alone for the console and more if you leave the Disc changer in it... Not to mention if it's the one that reads the different computer outputs.. ie: mpg, miles til empty, etc...

Not only that but the Clusters go for about $50 shipped... And you're gonna pick all this up... Just remember you can always talk down those JY's... Tell them you'll pay $150 right now for it all and you'll go pull it all yourself.. Tell them another place has the same stuff but is a lil further away from xxx price and usually they'll work with you... If you visit frequently you start to know people, that's when you start seeing savings lol

ranger_1999 05-22-2008 02:14 PM

Tre, what about the alarm part...the guy told me that the cluster w/a security system may not work with my ranger, and you might have to unplug your battery and mess with it or something like that

TrePaul86 05-22-2008 02:15 PM

Do you have factory alarm or aftermarket?

ranger_1999 05-22-2008 02:17 PM

i have a blinking red light, that sais security alarm.....Its factory

TrePaul86 05-22-2008 02:23 PM

From what I understand, if you don't have a 01+ it doesn't go to anything. Especially if you don't have factory alarm that came with remotes for it...

Here's what you can do... At least what I did when I bought mine a long time ago in my 2wd.. Ask them if you can swap out the clusters and see if it works.. Just go there with everything torn apart with it ready to unplug and plug in... If it works, call it good and pay for the sucker! If not, you won't have wasted any money... That's what I did in my 2000 when I went from the cluster with no tach to the silver faced 03 ones with orange needles... Asked to test it outside and when it worked, I went in and paid for it!

ranger_1999 05-22-2008 02:27 PM

He said i could unplug my cluster and see if my truck cranks...if it does itll work he said......Well i guess ill dive into that this afternoon, man its gonna take forever to take that ***** out....Whatd u do, take it complety off and drive there???.....hope i guess my speed! lol

5speedin2.3 05-22-2008 02:29 PM

you can unbolt it and leave it sitting in the dash with no bolts.

04blackedge 05-22-2008 02:34 PM

Do it! Then we can have matching interiors haha. I have the OHC, visors and full console as well.

TrePaul86 05-22-2008 02:58 PM

Yah I took off all the dash pieces but left the cluster in there plugged in, but took those bolts out too to make for a quick swap...

The guy is right... I think the truck will still crank but it may not read everything right if it's not the right one

5speedin2.3 05-22-2008 03:00 PM

if he has a 98+ it should be fine.

on the 95-97's a few of the lights are in the wrong places.

ranger_1999 05-22-2008 03:07 PM

alright, i guess ill try and figure out how to take the cluster out..i messed with it once but no luck, didnt spend a whole lota time on it.....

I hope it works good....Do those clusters (00-01) have green lights too??
I do hope the colors match, thats the only thing i didnt ask...LOL

TrePaul86 05-22-2008 03:11 PM

it's 4 bolts on the cluster... 7mm...

Then 3 plugs in the back man.. It's easy as sh!t..

All lights are green in all ford vehicles... It's there way of making the dash boring lol

ranger_1999 05-22-2008 03:16 PM

cool man, ill rip that bad boy out tonight, see how it is......Yeah, green is so dang lame....anything is better....Im gonna use your how-to for the new tach, if the tach works...!

I didnt ask what the color of the OHC, console, and visors are...hope its grey or black...if its not oh well

TrePaul86 05-22-2008 03:19 PM

It's cake man!

You know if it's not the color you want... Someone invented plastic paint a long time ago lol

taknotes 05-22-2008 03:25 PM

ranger_1999 05-22-2008 03:30 PM

thanks ryan....

The dude said the tach has low miles on it, cant i just roll them back versus taking it apart?? screw it

04blackedge 05-22-2008 03:32 PM

Ignore my last PM Dustin, I guess Ryan can get on now lol

TrePaul86 05-22-2008 03:35 PM

Well I can say i'm using it and i've never had one problem with flaking.... Key is adhesion promoter (couple coats), thorough coats of the color paint you want, then a good couple coats of clear coat. I haven't had a problem!

04blackedge 05-22-2008 03:38 PM

Yeah Dustin all of my things have been painted. The OHC was originally blue, the mustang domelight was originally tan and the center console was light gray. There all black now and you could never know unless you take them down and look at the backs. You can see it at the meet. Clear coat makes a huge difference in how shiny it is. IMO without clear coat looks more stock, but its not as durable.

But as long as you use quality paint and take your time with prep it will turn out great.
