BOO Switch Problem

Well my truck has been stuck in Park since I bought it. I can push the brake pedal and mess with the key and stuff and eventually get it to shift into drive but it's really a hastle and it's getting really annoying. I know it has something to do with the BOO (Brake On/Off) Switch. My question is, does anybody know how to fix it/disengage the switch?

if you think the BOO switch is at fault. disconnect the connector from it and jump the wires, now the shifter should move freely. if it does, then replace the BOO switch. you can not disable it or you wont have brakelights. If the shifter still wont move, pull the two covers off the column and look at the shift interlock solenoid

The guy that owned the truck before me installed an electronic trailer brake controller. Do you think this has anything to do with the BOO switch malfunction? It has a light that shines when you press on the brake so I assume it is also connected to the BOO switch. Thanks for your response by the way. I'll look into that tomorrow morning.
