Bought an 02 FX4 have a question

Hey guys. I just bought a 02 FX4 manual twin stick. I've got a question for you guys. The cruise doesn't work and the 'ABS' light comes on during acceleration. Are these related anyway? I'm guessing a VSS has gone to crap and causing cruise to not work. I can shut the key off and start the truck up and the 'ABS' light is off but cruise still doesn't work. Any suggestions. I'll get some pics some day for you.

The VSS also drives the speedometer/odometer - do they work? Is it the ABS light or the BRAKE light or both that come on during accel?

Besides the OFF button on the steering wheel pods, the speed control can be defeated by the Clutch Pedal Position switch, the Brake Pedal Position switch or the Deactivation Switch on the master cylinder. BTW, there is a recall on the Deactivation Switch for your 2002.

they also have a recall out about the cruise control button so you might want to check on that

Just the 'ABS' light and everything else works good. Thanks for the help, the dealer is working with me, but to keep diagnostic times down I thought I'd ask.

Thanks guys, keep this site as great as it is.

your cruise probably has been disabled under the hood. Look just foward of the master cylinder for an unplugged connector. When the dealer unplugged my cruise (for the recall) I had issues with my abs light coming on too.

Ok. The dealer took the truck back and sure enough they did disable cruise via unplugging it. What's the deal that they don't fix it? I drive about an hour and a half to school everyday so it's a PITA to keep it going 65 after a while. Also, is there anyway to fix it myself to keep me happy, if Ford is going to leave us hanging, I'm going to burn their truck down. Thanks--

The repair kits are in short supply because so many vehicles are affected by the recall. Ford will supply the repair harness at no charge when it becomes available but the Deactivation Switch disconnect is the interim "fix".
