Braking issues

Hi there, i just bought a 2000 ford ranger today for cheap money. But i'm having a problem with the brakes.
Seams like the ABS is screwed up, but not sure. I may bleed the brakes to see if that would help.

The problem is, when i put my foot on the brake pedal to stop(duh why else would you do that lol) almost stopped and the ABS kicks in, then you really need to put your foot though the floor to stop.

I did not get an owners manual with the truck, so i dont know which fuse to pull if bleeding the brakes does not help. can anyone help me with that also.

thank you in advance, doug

Yeah I agree with the wheel sensors. They are bolted onto the spindle on the back side. Check for damage to one or just change them.

Okay but isn't the sensor built into the hub? I heard yesterday that it could be a wheel bearing starting to go bad, not that it can be felt yet by moving the tire like normal(in other words not lose yet)

It sucks cause every time i go to stop, the ABS kicks in. One hill that i'am used to going down each morning, or when ever i go somewhere, this ranger will not stop until i'm in cross traffic, it's hard to change a driving habit, if you know what i'm saying.

If i knew how to find the ABS fuse i would really be happy. At which point i could drive it without an issue.

a good way to check to see if your bearings are going bad is to jack your truck up and hold on to the CV shaft and move your wheel back and forth. If the wheel moves independant of the CV shaft, then your bearing might starting to go bad.
