A/C Compressor R&R

I have a new, to me, 96 Ranger and I am going to R&R the A/C compressor which is leaking (along with the accumulator and orifice tube. I've looked at the Haynes manual and at the truck itself and it looks pretty easy. But looks can be deceiving - my g/f during 2012 - 13 proves that :flirt: . So, I have 2 questions:
1. is it really as easy as it looks?
2. has anyone had problems with an A/C kit from Rockauto?

Thank you

Make sure you get a new drier and pull vacuum for a good hour or so and make sure you have no leaks. You probably already know this.

Good luck!

Add oil to new compressor before installing

As long as it is just a leak then no need to flush the system
If a compressor blows out, it will send metal bits into the condenser and they will find their way to the new compressor over time and thru any filter, and blow it up, lol, so need to flush the system in that case

Yes the drier,receiver/accumulator are part of the kit Rockauto sells. Thank you for the info A/C has never been something I've spent much time on. So a local shop, with a good rep, is going to evac the system then I will swap out the parts and they will refill etc. Saves me a lot of money.

Thanks for that info. The shop that is going to flush then refill etc said the Ranger condenser has big passages and it is unlikely any stuff got stuck in there. But I will verify that based on this thread. Thank you

I doubt any bits would get stuck in condenser, it just the place where compressor sends out compressed gases first so if compressor breaks thats where most of the bits end up

Should be fine with a flush and refill
