Calling 2001 Rangers
I need your PCM number you have in your truck if you have the following:
2001 ONLY
4x4 (Mine's an XLT, I don't know if that matters)
5spd
4.0L SOHC
NO power options
NO cruise control
A/C (I don't think that matters)
There's a number on your PCM that goes like this (Where the plug goes into the PCM... It's a sticker):
1L5A-XXXXXX-YYY
I'm looking for that YYY letter combonation so I know what ECU to order or find in any yard or what not.
Mine ends in BFB and that's because it's an Auto. Shane's ends in BEA... But he has Cruise unlike me. I'm wondering if there is a different one for Shanes without cruise.
Manual tranny's have the following last letter combo's:
AGA
BAA
BAB
BAC
BCA
BCB
BEA
BEB
BEC
Also could have this:
1L5F-XXXXXX-NB
1L5F-XXXXXX-PB
1U7A-XXXXXX-FRA
Not sure on those last 3, but it lists those as an option.

Thanks Justin. I know Shane's is BEA and he has cruise... I just wanna see if there is another letter combo out there that is different without cruise from the factory...
I'm sure I'll need a BEA one though.

I found 2 in Springfield near me ending in BEA I might go take a look at on Friday. I need this done soon!
I need my speedometer and rev limiter removed. Re wiring isn't going to be fun, but hopefully when all is said and done I'll be able to say I'm the first with the PATS system to do the swap from auto to manual!

advanced? you think they've got actually accurate info there? NOPE! lol.
He did a manual swap....his truck came factory with an auto...he's got a 8 page thread in the project log section of the site.

just out of curiosity can you pop start the truck with the manual ECU in there? or will the pats shut it down. Also can you maybe trick the auto ecu to think its in Drive while your driving around like you fool it to think its in N?
no starting would happen. turn the key to 'on' and push down a hill, dump the clutch.. wont matter, if key is in 'on' the 'theft' light will fast very fast....just like if you took a non-pats keys and tried to start the truck.
You might be onto something right now......Trevor...I wonder if there could be a way to put a toggle switch in to confuse the auto ECU to think the trans is in drive while you are driving down the road so you could get your RPM's back. Maybe it'll perform as normal....start the truck in 'neu', and drive the truck in 'd'. This stuff needs moved to the project log so when someone else needs this sorta help, they got one thread instead of 15 to go through. lol.
