Check Gages Light On, Motor Cranks But Won't Start

This is for a 1995 Ford Ranger Xl, 2.3l engine, 5 speed manual transmission.

Last night I was on the way home on the freeway and all the sudden I lost acceleration and power steering went out. So my motor stopped and I get the "Check Gages" light. On the shoulder I tried starting it twice .Had it towed back home and tried some different things. I replaced fuse 26 which was burnt out

I scanned it and it had the following codes:
P1443
P0141
P0401

Today I replaced the fuel filter, and that didn't work. I checked the fuel rail too and there is pressure, but I don't have a pressure gauge to see if it's sufficient. I took one of the spark plugs out and saw it was sparking.
Any other ideas?

Basic vehicle specs (Year+Model+Engin+Trans+...?) in your signature
makes questions+answers easier+quicker.

Click here for a list+definitions of OBD2 TroubleCodes.
Start with reading those definitions & fixing those problems.
Have you tried the basic 50/50 Ignition/Fuel Test using StartingSpray?

I did the 50/50 test with gas, not starting fluid. My stepdad injected some gas in the throttle body and it came close to starting but didn't. I found that P1443 can be caused by a bad purge valve, could that keep it from starting?

EVAP system errors likely will not interfer with engine operation; they're only there to satisfy EPA requirements.
Work on the other 2 problems first.
Get yourself some StartingFluidSpray.
How long since FuelFilter has been renewed?
Could also have a FuelPump problem?

So you have fuel pressure, but not sure if it's sufficient. Harbor Freight has cheap fuel pressure testers if you have one local. That will help verify if the fuel pump is weak.

You said you have spark at the plugs, so that would somewhat rule out ignition, unless the timing is off (broken belt, jumped the gear, etc). Is the spark strong enough to ignite the fuel, or is it a weak spark? Still could be a spark issue until you determine whether the spark is sufficient to ignite the fuel.

Hey, it turned out the timing belt was broken. I replaced it, made sure all the gears were lined up right, and it would still turn over but not start. Anything else it could be?

Update, the truck is back to running! Took another look at it last weekend and saw I had lined up the crankshaft gear in the wrong position, so got that fixed. It seems to idle pretty high now though, probably about 1400-1500 rpm for a few seconds and back down to 1000 rpm after slowing down
