Chiming When Key Is Removed
I just bought a 1997 ford ranger and even after you remove the key from the ignition and make sure its in the right place and open the door it still chimes . In order to get it to stop I have to slam the door really hard sometimes several times what can this be and please someone tell me why this might be happening .

on a 97 its integrated into the door lock inside the door when the latch closes it turns off the chime thats part of your problem. The other is the chime itself with the key removed it shouldn't chime so that indicates your lock cylinder is off somehow. There is a pice inside that contacts metal when the key is inserted and closes the chime circuit if its out of alignment it will contact all the time and chime with the key in or out. Mine is messed up the other way it doesn't chime unless the key has pressure on it but i hate the chime so i never fixed it.

My '94 Ranger does almost the same thing. I can get it to stop by jiggling the part of the ignition switch on the steering column that half-way surrounds the key. I don't bother with it every time. It must be kinda sensitive because it sometimes starts chiming again after the truck bounces a little when I climb out. As long as it stops when I close the door, I'll go ahead and live with it for now.
