Another shock thread.

I have a 98 4x4 off road package ranger fully stock. I need to get new shocks all around.

I am looking for a smooth riding shock vs. crazy off road capabilities. Don't get me wrong I do want to off road but also have a smooth ride.

I have done reading on old threads and I see the Bilsteins 5100 series are loved by all that try them but sound to be a stiffer ride. I read about the pro comp ES9000 being a smoother ride.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I'm looking into ES9000's right now and hear they are a little harsher of a ride, which I myself don't mind.

The ES9000's should fit what you are looking for, but if you are concerned about ride quality the ES3000's might be worth looking into as well.

I decided to go with the blisten when I spoke with 4 wheel parts they said the 98 ranger 4x4 takes 4600 series. Can anyone confirm or deny that?

They only make 5100s for the back. The front you're limited to 4600s. They make 4600s for the rear as well. I have the 4600s front and 5100s back and absolutely love the ride on and off the road.

If you want to do some off-roading, get the 5100's for the rear.

Thanks for the replys guys. I was on my way to get the upper and lower ball joints replaced and shocks when someone cut me off on the freeway and I fish tailed for 100 feet into a wall and totaled the truck. Lucky me and the dog are fine and got full coverage. Getting 6500 back when I paid 3000. Searched for 6 months and gone in 7 days.

Happy I got a chance to take it out camping and offroading and realize I'm a ranger fan for life! I'll be getting a new one soon.

glad to hear you are ok.

$6500 should get you into a pretty decent Ranger.

Glad you and your dog walked away unharmed. Good luck getting a decent one with all good suspension for off road. We just got 5100's for the rear from 4WheelOnline.com sale couple of months ago and couldn't been better. A ranger with this shock is worth checking.
