Crooked steering wheel
Crooked steering wheel
I have an 04 Ranger Edge that was in a front end accident two owners before I bought it, and due to the accident, the steering wheel has never been straight. The owner before me said he had the wheels aligned, and my dad's mechanic says the wheels are aligned, and the tire guys said that the wheels are aligned but they can't get the steering wheel straight. Its rotated to about 2 o'clock when the wheels are straight and it drives me crazy. Is there are a way to straighten it? And what is the source of its crookedness?
This is quite common since "locking Steering wheels" came on to the market
Prior to this an alignment guy would put steering wheel in "centered position" then tie it off so it can't move
Then raise up vehicle and do the alignment with steering wheel centered
Unless you ask specifically for this method, an alignment shop will just use steering wheel lock point "close to center" and align using that, so he doesn't have to tie it off
There is absolutely no mechanical reason steering wheel can't be centered
You would need to get it re-aligned to make it straight/centered
