Cruise Control Cable Too Tight

Hello everyone, I just replaced my broken cruise control cable with a new one. Same size as the old one. So now I have cruise! Yay. Buuuut now my idle has jumped from anywhere to 1100 rpms to 1500 rpms. I believe my cruise control cable may be too tight. I replaced the TPS a couple months ago and again this just started after replacing the cable. Does anyone know how to loosen that cable? Thanks!

Sorry about that. It’s a 2003 ranger XLT 2.3 regular cab Automatic.

Just to confirm the diagnosis, can you disconnect the cable temporarily and verify that the idle drops back?

Yep once I disconnect it, everything goes back to normal. When the cable is connected, I can feel a little play at the throttle body as if it’s open just slightly. I did do the zip tie mod at the gas pedal but I removed it just in case that was the issue and I can confirm it still idles high without the zip tie and with the cruise control cable connected.

Update. I drove my truck to work and back the last couple days. About 50 miles round trip and it seems to have fixed itself. RPMs dropped back to normal. Not sure if the cable needed time to loosen on its own or if the computer figured it out but regardless, she’s back to normal.
