I know I screwed up there with pulling into cross traffic, I'm talking about how I reacted when I realized what i had done. And by training, I'm including drivers Ed, army drivers training, and online quick reaction videos I lve watched.

IDK how fast he was going, but his skid marks were hella long. I'm pretty sure he was speeding, because his skid marks were too long to be 35MPH for that small of a car.

And no, the Toyota wasn't going very fast. I can tell by the damage to it. He maybe hit you going 20-25 tops. And if the skids were "hella" long, that's just how far he had the brakes applied. Minimal damage to the Mercedes too. This is a very weak "life changing" ordeal.

Looks like the Toyota didn't miss the idiot.

Ha I love how Jason comes in here telling people what changes their life and what doesnt. I didnt know that there was an exact prerequisite to having a life changing event such as rolling a truck 4 times and coming to rest in a ditch filled with water. Cool story Jason I guess the OP should not be as thankful because he only rolled once and did not come to rest in water so his chances of dieng were significantly less than yours.

honestly, give it a rest.
so he isnt "billy badass" like you are Jason, or maybe he is just plain smarter and doesnt need something so severe to learn a lesson that will make him a better driver....
let me ask you this, he made an honest mistake, which Im going to have to assume you have never done in your entire life...
so what caused you to roll a vehicle 4 times and end upside down in a ditch ?

Stephen, be thankful that your "life changing" experience was so forgiving and as minimal as it was. Ive lost too many friends to life changing experiences they did not walk away from (or anywhere else.... ever, for that matter)

I had a sidewall blow out going down I95 in the rain. It's why I don't buy BFGs anymore.

I dont think it was to weak of a wreck it did put a ranger on the roof. Ive had good luck with bfg, your sidewall was ruptured and you didnt realise it and drove down the freeway, its not bfg fault.

I was stating that mildly rolling over on your top isn't as big a deal as everyone makes it out to be. The damage to the axle is because he was turning left and was hit in the rear/right side. The weight snapped the wheel off and is what caused him to roll.

No it was a defect tire that was 3 months old and was never offroad. I'm still involved with the law suit. Try again though.

Why are you being suck a ********. Great, you rolled over in a ditch and it changed your life, thats you.
This kid was involved in a three car accident that totaled the vehicle and caused him to roll, that changed his life.
I slid into traffic at a stop sign and collided front ends with a car, spun, collided again. They drove away. Mine was in shop fro two days. No injuries to people or vehicles really. It changed my life.

You are not the soothsayer of what does and does not change people lives.
Now STFU, and be happy that the Ranger is a hardy vehicle and no one is dead.

GOOD DAY SIR.

I still wouldn't think of it as a "life changing" experience, unless someone was badly hurt. A vehicle is a vehicle, they can easily be replaced. Especially a ranger.

Looks like you should have got some more training on distinguishing between green and red.

Hahaha. Oh and that class you get in basic is a 4 hour video you sit through. Been there, got the paperwork. HARDCORE TRAINING!!!! Yea I'm a dick. I also don't look at the gps when it's talking to me. Does your gps have closed captioning? As for the Ranger being a "hardy" vehicle, his was flopped over in a low speed wreck because of the way and angle it was hit. Anyone can figure that out by looking at the picture. Especially looking at the Corolla that him. But hey, if this is a life-changing experience, well then sucks for you I guess. Like I said, you're lucky you didn't hurt anyone. One thing you should change is not using a gps, cause you fail at that.

and you sir, fail at life

so I guess that you dont really have a lot to talk about.
I mean... you had a silly little blow out on a 3-4 lane interstate and rolled 4 times from that !?
come talk to me when you have a blow out that completely shreds your tire so your riding on bare rim, on a 2 lane country road full of potholes and no shoulder, going 80-85mph with oncoming traffic and the worst thing you have to do is change the tire... which is exactly what happened to me last year in my ranger going from Sebring to Bradenton on SR64.

the point being that it doesnt matter WHAT happened to make it a life changing experience, unless you were actually there and involved, then you havent a clue as to what really happened.

I can speculate as well, here is how I see it:
the first car to hit him was the rolla, which has a long skid mark, you state he must not have been going more than 20-25 mph when he hit Stephen, I will use that hypothetical speed for my example.
however your not taking into account that he was STILL traveling at a rate of 20-25mph at impact, this being AFTER he had long skid marks from trying to stop. which shows that the toyo driver was indeed going much faster than the 35mph posted speed. now, your also not taking into account of mass inertia, which has NOTHING to do with the speed of the vehicle, its why a cars true stopping distance is rated from full acceleration and not a steady speed.
so back on track, the toyo hits the rear of the truck, taking off the axle and spinning the rear around, adding to the mass inertia of the impact with the merc.
from what I can make out of the pictures, the impact with the merc is what started the roll. but the truck is STILL in a spin, so you not only have the spin taking place but ALSO the roll, which is EXTREMELY disorienting. (try a gyroscope ride sometime and you will get the point)
now, another point of interest here is that it makes NO difference if you roll once or 10 times, the SECOND you roll you lose ALL control over the situation and the vehicle. which you still have a small amount of even with a broken rear axle since the front end is still good at this point.

so you add that all up and yes, I give props to Stephen for doing EXACTLY what he needed to do to save his girl and himself from serious bodily harm.
and if the experience changed his life FOR THE BETTER then I congratulate him.
while you I just pity because you obviously learned nothing from your life so far.

Edit: I started typing BEFORE pics were uploaded so, yea,,,

Uh, yea ^ that. I've neglected the forum for several weeks, I come back to see this story and more trash talking than I'd expect. Really people, everyone makes mistakes. Obviously it was dumb, look what happened, he knows that, there is no need to be a dick about it. You are not proving anything to anyone except that you are a dick, that is the ONLY point you have conveyed. And stop judging if it was, or was not a "life changing experience," I've had conversations that change my life, to some degree, and I've also had friends die (and be resuscitated) before they changed theirs. It's obvious he learned something and will make sure it never happens again, i.e. life change.

That said, glad everyone is okay, it could have been sooo much worse, and once you were in the situation, I don't know that you could have done any better. On a side note, I keep my GPS muted, but only because the voice annoys the crap out of me,,,

This thread could not have taken a worse turn. Are we really trying to one up each other on accidents now?

There's no need for a physics lesson, you don't know near enough info to make such "accurate" judgements.

Geez guys, lighten up

IBTL haha

But anyways, clearly what he did was retarded, there is no question about it. Even he said it was stupid. Thankfully he didn't hurt or kill anyone from his stupid mistake. Obviously it scared the poo out of him which is good, hopefully it is life changing and he will no longer take critical advice from a GPS or rush into an intersection.

However I don't think he needs to pride himself on his reaction. If he was driving another car and avoided this accident that would be another thing. He should deal with the fact that he screwed up big time and could have killed someone, and take that as a lesson. It doesn't take but a split second of lapsed judgement to cause a big mess. I'm glad nobody was seriously hurt.

Oh and now you know why states like California outlaw GPS units mounted on the windshield. lmao
I see the same thing here. People stick the GPS unit right in front of their face or in the middle of their windshield and pay more attention to it than the road ahead.

<- doesnt own a GPS, and never will.

I am not trying to "one up" anyone's accidents, just making a point that USMCford is acting like billy badass (and a jackass to boot) by using his accident as a point of reference to downplay the severity of Stephens accident to ridicule him, and going by that I used my own counterpoint of reference. my story (about the tire blowing out) is 100% true, I can even show the damage to the side of my truck.

and I did say I was only hypothesizing about the accident.

I don't have anything against using a GPS unit. I have one that I occasionally use in my truck and I use one every day that I fly. In either case, it's shouldn't be used as a substitute for a map or for knowing where you are going in general. It shouldn't interfere with your line or sight or your driving, it is just a point of reference. If it is too much of a distraction, don't use it! To some people it is just as distracting (or even more so) than texting and driving.

Furthermore, I hope he has learned not to assume that everything is 'all clear' simply because of a green light. I have learned to be especially cautious since moving to the land of idiots running red lights. It doesn't mean I can't get hit, but I can think of more than one occasion since I moved here where I nearly got T-boned when my light was, and had been green for several seconds.

I can relate to that, I have owned several bikes, and paying exceptionally close attention to your surroundings is something you learn VERY fast in SFL, or you end up a statistic....
since my son was born, I always make sure the intersections are clear and try to ascertain if any oncoming traffic is def stopping before I move. its only takes a few moments and has saved my *** a few times already.

Thing is, Someone could have died... Thankfully that didn't happen, but it could have. I dont know how you can think that someone has to be seriously injured or dead to be life changing... you are one hardheadedmother****er if thats the case

Yes, it may not have been behind the wheel experience, but its the knowledge that counts. I'm not sure what is with you, but you have to be one of the biggest *******s i've met... you seem like one of those marines at Ft Knox, (who BTW was an E5) that got all hot in the chow hall at a group of 6-7 Army Drill Sergeants (all E6 & E7) with absolutely no respect, just because our unit had somewhere to be and we double-timed it to get there first, so we could get to our destination on time. dont get me wrong, some of my best friends are marines, but damn guy, you seem to be one of the sour ones.

The GPS unit was out of the way... in the background of it, I saw dashboard/ hood. Where it is in the picture, is where it was mounted, but facing me, and against the A-pillar/ dash. as out of the way as it can be and still be mounted to the windshield.

I'm not trying to praise my driving skills, I'm trying to tell the story. If someone else had made the same mistake of running a red light, they most likely would have reacted by hitting their brakes... human nature.

Yes, I screwed up and made a "retarded" mistake by running the red light... but i reacted to the situation at hand as best I could, having as few casualties as possible...

I posted my story up here to tell the story of an event that took place in my life, that I know will change it. Not to get **** on. but, if it makes you feel better about yourself to **** on someone while they are down, go ahead.
