Dealer put 5W20 insted of 5W30

So my dealer put 5W20 instead of 5W30 in my 2010 4.0L Ranger.
Should I worry about it ?

Did your manual tell you that you needed 5W30?

I don't think there is a big difference though. But I may be way off

I dont know what "mtl" is for location. But 5W20 is oil for people who live in colder climates. So I live in Alaska, I'm just today doing a 5W20 oil change.

even if you were extremely hard on it that slight oil change wont matter. its fine leave it. Ford switched to this weight for almost all engines.

it was my understanding that most fords switched to 5w20, i would check your owners manual

shouldn't make any real difference on a newer engine

Bro, once again, us northerners use 5W20 because it's better for our trucks in cold climate.

Maybe I should be using 5W20? My oil cap says 5W30 so that's what I've always put in...

Ford did back-spec a lot of engines to 5w-20, but the SOHC 4.0 was not one of them. That oil is too thin for that motor, I'd switch it out immediately! I'd also go back to the same dealer and have them fix, and document, it. I'd also ask them to provide some documentation that 5w-20 is acceptable for that application.

Going up a weight is fine, although your fuel economy may decrease slightly. But going down a weight is risky to the engine, the oil may not be robust enough to adequately protect the engine. There is a reason that engine was not back-spec'd, and I'd bet that the Ford engineers know more about the lubrication requirements of that engine than the oil change kid at the dealership. Why not be safe, and return it to the dealership and have them correct their mistake?

No ill effects that you are aware of. I'd love to see a UOA of a 5w-20 run for 5k in that engine. Dealer won't do anything about what?

I change it up, I go from 20/50 down to 10/40, just to be different

just kidding, my last oil change they used 5/30w, but seeing as Im in SFL and our coldest days are about the same as Canada's summer nights... oh, and my engine is the 3.0L so may have a little mroe wiggle room.

You keep on saying it's the wrong oil when both ford and people in northern climates agree that 5w20 is best. Pw01 isn't saying anything worth listening to
