debating about changing my exhaust

I have a flowmaster on there right now and i hate the way it sounds. Its the 40series dual out single in....I was thinking about the gibson catback system what do you guys suggest for a nice low sound at loud when i open the throttle up?

Borla defenitly...

Its the most deep exhaust i have heard on a 4.0, and it sounds BADASS at full throttle. I have heard flowmasters sound ****ty at WOT....Plus better performing wise vs. flowmaster, and MAYBE a tad better mileage...good luck!

Magnaflow will NEVER give you louder/lower sound vs the original 40.... The Borla is the only other exhaust system that will give you comperable sound, so if you want a change go that route (althoguht i myself dont think it'll be better) Oh and he has a 3.0 Mark

I have the 4.0 and i havnt heard anything better then the magnaflow i got on, i also changed my tips from 3'' to 4.5'' so it echo's more and it gives it more tone....Trust me tips make the biggest difference when you have an exhaust that comes out the back, The longer & Bigger dia. tip, the bigger the sound

most of the muffler listed use the same basic engineering, mangnaflow, borla and gibson are all about the same. ive only used magnaflow myself, when i installed it on my truck it sounded stock at first, but now it sounds mean, nice and quiet at idle but it will get mean if you romp on it. the key to sounds is the SIZE OF THE MUFFLER CASE. the smaller the case the louder it will be. i am partial to magnaflow, but borla and gibson are also very good choices

I think this sums it up.

If you have a crapload of money go Borla, its the best sound supposedly.
Magnaflow is better than Flowmaster, its more of a deep engine sound that says quality.
Flowmaster is hella loud but sounds ****ty, its a louder sound of the engine, minus the growl that magnaflow and borla have.

I wouldn't say that Gibson is really quiet, but it is definitely quiter than just about everything else. I'm running a Gibson single-out, and I can say that you won't forget it's there - especially at wide-open-throttle - but you won't get a headache from it either.

What I like about Gibson is that, not everyone within a half mile will know what you're running.

the magnaflow sounds more aggressive than the borla. the borla pro xs has a more smooth, refined sound to it. i have a borla pro xs, my buddy had a magnaflow (both on 3.0 rangers). i've never heard a gibson, but i have owned a flowmaster 40 series. i wouldnt change my current borla for anything... i LOVE it.

as far as power gains, youre honestly not going to notice a difference between the borla and magnaflow.

i got a si/so new borla pro xs exhaust on ebay for about $75, then paid another $125 at a local shop for installation (including chrome tip). a magnaflow installed would have run me about $175 otd so the borla wasnt that much more.

Borla dont cost more than any of the other mufflers...You can get the muffler for 100 bucks, pipes bent for 100-200 and tips for 50.

ive had magnaflow, borla, and flowmaster.

junk flowmaster and either get magnaflow or borla, ive heard them both on several different trucks and both sound awesome and performance is good with both as well.

btw ive heard the magnaflows sound good on the 3.0. isnt the 3.0 a pushrod motor? unlike the 4.0 sohc which prolly is what makes the 4.0 sound ricy.

For a 4.0L, which exhaust would give the deeper tone and better gas mileage? I have been looking at the Flowmaster mufflers. Did you just buy the muffler and have the exhaust system custom built?
