Hi everyone. I'm new to the forum and looking for advice. My info says I own a ranger but that isn't completely true, yet. I'm trying to decide between two local vehicles for sale. A.) 2006 XLT 4x4 regular cab, 4.0, automatic, 89,000 miles. Comes with camper shell. Or B.) 2005 EDGE, extended cab, 4x4, 94,000 miles. Both are priced fairly and accordingly. This will be a daily driver that I will modify mildly. Any input is appreciated. Pros and cons as well. Thanks in advance. I look forward to becoming an active member of the forum.

 

Welcome! Both should be excellent trucks if you feel the asking price or what you can negotiate them to to be fair. Just out of curiosity what motor is in option B? All ranger motors are pretty good for their purpose but some better than others. What are you planning to use the truck for other than daily driving?

 

Thanks for the reply. I'm not sure the engine size of the 2005. Still waiting to hear back from the seller. Besides a daily driver it'll be used for hunting, fishing, camping, maybe some light trail riding. Nothing too extreme.

 

If the 05 is a 4.0 I'd go with it since its an extended cab, but I'm impartial to an edge

 

extended cab 100% .. reg cabs look cool but the extra room inside for gear is just too handy. These trucks are already small enough. make sure you go with a 4.0 though

 

Reg cab with a 4.0 would be very rare. I didn't think you could get that combination. Are you sure its not a 3.0

 

Went with the 2006 XLT. Never could get info on the extended cab and felt this was too good of a deal to pass up.

 

Also, can I fit 31.10.50's without a lift?

 

You forgot to mention it was E4. I would have said go with it! Good choice! Check out the chart of maximum tire size about the tires.

 

Very nice. Reg cab 4x4's are the best. Wish I had a regular cab Haha.

 

I didn't even think to mention color. Haha. I'm loving it so far. First ranger I've ever had. My brother had an '89 when he has 16. Great truck. Where do I find the tire chart you're referring to?

Thanks. Does the t-bar crank effect handling, ride, or anything like that?

 

It takes away down travel and you'll need an alignment. Some say it makes it rougher. I haven't done it yet, but probably will before I'm done lifting.

 

Is it completely necessary to run 31's or would they scrub without doing it?

 

It all depends on how you sit. You might be able to use a rim with less backspacing, it will poke out more to the sides

 

I think im just going to replace the rims for now. The toyos still got a lot of life left in them.

 

Cranking the bars has no I'll effects, unless you max them out. Level the truck, it will easily fit up to 32's without rubbing, and it will give you zero issues.

 

What will I need to purchase to accomplish this? Or is it simply cranking the t bars?

 

Just a socket. Mark how many turns on each side. Most important thing is cranking equally!

 

Sounds easy enough. Is there a recommended amount of turns?

 

There's a how-to thread on it if you need to see pictures (assuming the links to the pics still work). Everyone's truck is a little different in terms of exactly how many times you have to turn them to get your truck level. I can't even remember how many turns i had to do.
