Icon11 Did the Tacoma mod

Im not sure what got into me but i spontaneously traded my ranger in last night after 1 and a half years and 20,000 miles...

Ranger stranding me twice didnt help my gut feeling...

I found a "used" CPO 2012 Tacoma Access cab w 1,300 miles on it... (prob my biggest reason for the switch was to get into a truck with half doors! woohoo!) v6 4x4, base trim with some options (power everything, convenience, upgraded tires wheels, and tow package.

RF has been an awesome resource through all the work i did to my ranger. its a little scarey leaving ford for the first time in my life but im getting such a great feeling from this truck... it rides like an SUV, its very smooth, i cant give its suspension and transmission enough kudos over my XLT...

good luck out there gents and thank you for having me! :)

it took me 5 hours tonight to pull all my mods out! it was exhausting. i will be posting some stuff for sale. (3rd brake light cargo flood, 3 volume ford shop manual, low profile "access" tonneau cover, ect..)

What kind of troubles did you have with the Ranger?

The Tacoma does look nice.

totally gay bro....be gone with your glorified prius......

Ok just kidding man, nice purchase, my buddy just got one in dark grey. Hes been watching me fix my ranger up and now hes modding it like none other. Just did the "satoshi" grille mod...whatever the hell that means lol. Sucks that the Ranger let you down....mines at 130k and has never let me stranded...if it did though id prolly sell it, reliability is my #1 priority.

thanks guys
for the record i dont doubt i that i could have taken my ranger to 150,000 + miles. i was a sucker for the half doors and drooling over a truck with 98,700 miles of warranty remaining :)

i love the ride and the doors the most. the M+S tires are SUPER loud on the highway. wind noise is less than Ranger, but yota cheaps out on the base models in some areas like, no intermittent wipers... srsly?... ive already set up my first mod...

the bed is just a few inches bigger and the cabin has a touch more room. loading the dog with the double doors is a cinch. Thanks to RF i had my truck just right before i got this bright idea...

330 miles from home, one day before a work shift, i had a water pump failure. also 330 miles from home, a few months later, a day before a work shift i had a radiator failure. i think it was just bum luck. the ranger was a good truck, no doubt. lots of good memories it carted me off to...

if you sit in the back you'll have perfect posture lol. A friend of mines dad has the same truck but 2011 and my buddy is always driving it because neither of his cars are "done". The yotas have more oomph than the ranger too

haha the back seats are a joke, but i only use the back for the dog. im actually thinking of just removing them all together. they arent comfortable for any sort of real life use.

i was always outwardly jealous of the ranger guys w the half doors... i def compromised on the ranger and it bit me in the behind by passing on the extra doors. Hopefully this one will stick around.

I say toss the seats if ya dont need em and put two subs and an amp back there. Of course a new headunit as well, the oem one is really quiet. The brackets on the seats are a pain to remove iirc though, they are spot welded to the cab.

How do u like that v6 engine compared to the sohc in the ranger?

the V6 compared to fords 4.0 is peppier, i feel like its got more pickup... but its also 70,000 and 5 years newer. without looking in the truck i think the red line is lower in the taco, but the 5 speed transmission is smooth, cruising at 80 and your still below 2500 RPM. fuel economy over the past 200 miles ive driven it has been well ahead (22) of my ranger (17-19). the Yota doesnt have a harsh edge to its ride like my XLT did.

i agree pagan, i think the back seats are coming out. the rear center console is def coming out (dog trips all over it) amps are going back there, and i might do the sub where toyota puts it if i cant find better spot. the OEM sound sucks but is set up in a way it that it will turn out well. they have good tweeter spots in the doors.

thank you for all the well wishes guys. we have a great community here. it was a huge help to me in getting my XLT set up just right.

my one reservation about the truck was its trim package. i have reservations about how those big plastic fenders are going to hold up and look over time. I like the way they look, but its in the back of my mind.

totally agree, i loved the look of the front end of the ranger, the truck was well proportioned. the yota is growing on me. :)

Im going to transfer that as well, its a universal one and i highly recommend it. its built extremely well, quality stainless brackets, it pulls on and off very easy and it stows on the tailgate using only about 4-5 inches of depth if you leave it on. I left mine on seasonally. its nice to buy a piece of hardware like this and just install it and forget about it. Its also nice not to have to open your tonneau of you wish to use it.
