i will tell you what if you get this thing to fit your truck and not leak. and you decide you dont like it i will buy it off you.


saying that this is my suggestion to make it fit better. the part that the rubber is on. the rubber off and trim it down so it fits better and put the rubber back on.

 

so have you done anything with this?

 

I bought some 5" 100w lights to put on it lol. I guess you could say I've had some motivation issues. Oh and it should sit flush against the cab. I was looking at the pictures of the F150 again and that rubber should compress enough. When I test fitted the mount I only had it held up by the 2 brake light screws. Once I actually drill into the cab and use the inner mounting bracket I do not for-see any issues. Trust me, I think about mounting that thing all the time. The weather is supposed to be nice this weekend so hopefully I will have the time.

 

I'm kinda curious to see how this turns out.

Hit a snag. The inner mounting bracket physically does not fit into the 3rd brake light opening. I think if I trim about an inch or so off each side I can make it work. Also appears that even with the foam gasket, there will be a gap between the light mount and the cab. That doesn't bother me too much because I can always silicone it. Something that concerns me a little, if you will reference the pic below....



on the top of the opening (where the 3rd brake light goes) you see two screw holes. that is where you are supposed to drill through the cab and attach the inner bracket to the outer one. There are 3 more along the bottom. The two on the top can't be drilled because they fall just inside the opening in the cab. With everything tight I do not think this will be a problem but it is something to note.

So I didn't get it mounted today but have a plan. Which is better than nothing I guess.

Best I can do. You can see the sections I cut from the sides. It is aluminum so a band saw will make short work of it but a hacksaw should get the job done.



I test fitted this when I got home and the contour at the top of the bracket matches our roof line PERFECTLY! So now the only problem I may have is making sure it seals against the roof. Sadly it will be the weekend before I can mess with it again. It gets dark right as I get home.

 

I was wondering if the mounting screws could still be used without drilling into the cab, just have all five screws coming through the opening and when tightened, will sandwich the sheet metal and gasket. It is just a thought.

 

Simply can't be done. The bottom 3 are outside of the opening. However, with the 3rd brake light attached, only the bottom center hole is exposed, and only half it is. Yeah, I already drilled the cab. Oh well lol. Come this weekend it won't matter anyway. She will be mounted.

Indeed I will sir. I had it held on by the longer brake light screws that come with the mount and I think it is going to look pretty good once everything is mounted. I will take as many terrible cell phone pics as I can.

Ok I finally uploaded the rest of the pics. Pardon the pics, they were taken with my camcorder. The very last one was taken with my cell phone. The lights are 5" and the cb antenna is 4ft.








I have more during the installation process as well as measurements (how high off the cab, how far it sticks off the back of the cab, etc) and I can post those up when I do a little write-up in a bit. I think it looks pretty darn good if you ask me.

The instructions that come with it should be all you need. The only thing that needs modifying is the inner bracket. I go back and forth between liking it or not. It may not be up there come the end of the weekend. I'll try not to be lazy over thanksgiving and see what I can do for you.

Oh, and at speeds above 35mph, it hums a little bit as the air passes through the holes in the front.

This is how mine are mounted. I drilled into a yakima cross tube, and they are held on by the control towers. Mine are at the front of my cab, but if you had a four door you could mount them at the back.

 

I have a friend that does metal work for a living, I can talk to him and see if he cant design something for us. I am looking for a few idea for CB antenna mounting and this would look good, I could handle that. I can also see what he suggests for making a smiliar setup for 4 lights.
