Differential options for the 7.5 axle

So im pretty tired of my open diff when off roading and would like to get some more traction.

Im wondering if anyone has any suggestions for what to put in my 7.5 axle. Id like a selectable locker (like air or electric) but I dont think they make them for the 7.5. So im looking at LSD or a Locker.

Currently the only two options I know of are:
Auburn Limited Slip
Detroit TrueTrac Locker

Also in your guy's opinion is it worth the money to upgrade this? Its going to come in around 800 bucks parts and labor..

eh.. what i did with mine was go to the junk yard.. found a 01 edge with L/S 3.73 gears i wanted. bought the whole axle for $150.. put new fluid in it, new shoe's and springs and wheel cylinders and got the drums cut.. spray bombed it up and installed it.. i was still probably under $200....

I'd try to find a cheap 8.8, that will open up a ton of options with lockers and such and give you a stronger axle.

I will be switching to a 31 spline rear end when I find one. I will sell you my 8.8 28 spline cheap with everything. I think the most it would is the LS rebuilt.

Id love to install an 8.8 axle, but I dont have the tools or knowledge to do it. So it would have to be taken to a shop. Anyone know roughly what a shop would charge to swap the axles?

i want to say 7.5 to a spring over axle 8.8 all you would need is probably an impact and some wrenches to do the brakes and drive shaft

but someone may correct me

We could probably do it with basic hand tools.

Hmm maybe Ill consider that. Well have to talk more once you get the 31 spline rear end.

So after some thought I think you guys are right, It would be smarter to go to an 8.8. So I might hold off for a bit till i find one.

Any suggestions of where to get an 8.8? I heard junkyards but im a bit nervous about that cause you wont know the condition that they are in...

Going to a junkyard and finding an 8.8 LS would cost you what...?

I have the open 8.8 and not liking it to much.

Would it be hard to just take the LS out of the junkyard axle and putting it in mine? That would be really nice.

That seems very reasonable. Would it even be worth my time to just take the LS out of one axle and put it in mine?
