Differential options for the 7.5 axle
So im pretty tired of my open diff when off roading and would like to get some more traction.
Im wondering if anyone has any suggestions for what to put in my 7.5 axle. Id like a selectable locker (like air or electric) but I dont think they make them for the 7.5. So im looking at LSD or a Locker.
Currently the only two options I know of are:
Auburn Limited Slip
Detroit TrueTrac Locker
Also in your guy's opinion is it worth the money to upgrade this? Its going to come in around 800 bucks parts and labor..

eh.. what i did with mine was go to the junk yard.. found a 01 edge with L/S 3.73 gears i wanted. bought the whole axle for $150.. put new fluid in it, new shoe's and springs and wheel cylinders and got the drums cut.. spray bombed it up and installed it.. i was still probably under $200....

So after some thought I think you guys are right, It would be smarter to go to an 8.8. So I might hold off for a bit till i find one.
Any suggestions of where to get an 8.8? I heard junkyards but im a bit nervous about that cause you wont know the condition that they are in...

Theres one line ontop of the differential ( proportioning valve ), one plastic connector with wires on the diff, 4-ubolts on the springs and the end of the drive shaft.
A basic socket set, a flathead screwdriver, open end/line wrench and a case of beer.. You could do this in under 2 hours ( if in a rush ).
You might want to get in touch with a member from your area. A shop will probably charge you a MINIMUM of 4 hrs of labor and ' dream ' up parts you will have to buy.
It would be a WASTE to upgrade any 7.5 rear endless the upgrade part was an 8.8 rear .
Going to a junkyard and finding an 8.8 LS would cost you what...?
I have the open 8.8 and not liking it to much.
Would it be hard to just take the LS out of the junkyard axle and putting it in mine? That would be really nice.
