Do I have Rear Wheel or All Wheel ABS?
I have a 98 Ford Ranger XLT, 4x4, 2 door supercab that needs brake lines.
The auto supply is telling me that they need to know if the truck has Rear Wheel ABS or All Wheel ABS. Some of the lines/hoses are different between the two. Since I don't know what I'm looking for on the hubs, I decided to look at the engine bay; starting from the master cylinder. From the output on the master cylinder that's labeled “R” (I'm assuming that's referring to the rear wheels), the line goes to what looks like a proportioning valve (which has an electrical plug on it), then it goes to back to the rear wheels. From the output on the master cylinder that's labeled “F”, there is a electrical plug on the top side of and a line going out the left side. That line is going to the front wheels. I'm not seeing any thing else that looks like an electrical connection. I'm getting the impression that my truck only has Rear Wheel ABS. Does this sound right? Is there anything else I should be looking for? If you need more information, let me know, and I'd be happy to look for it. |
you should have "lines" with a white piece by the hub on both wheels for front ABS
also check by the front body mounts on the frame. you should have a plug thats right there on both sides horizontally which is where the sensor connects. |
There is only one line coming from the the hub, and that one is the vacuum line for the lockouts.
I didn't see any plugs by the front body mounts, either. |

Sounds like you have just rear ABS.
Terrible picture but the front hubs would have a sensor like this if you had ABS on the front too: https://www.ranger-forums.com/attach...ine=1374625907 |
