I was wondering how many of you out there do your own oil changes?

 

yes always its two simple and cheap not too. hell i dont even have to jack our trucks up so i mean just crawl underneather and do it...

 

It was easier on my Ranger because it was lifted, but I still do it myself on my Explorer. Although with the rain we've been having lately (24 days straight), and my regular oil change interval coming up.... I almost don't want to do it myself (no covered shop).

 

I would much rather do it myself than spend the money. besides I dont really like anybody messing with my truck... I only get shops to do what I can't. I am really **** about my truck. I think I can count on on hand the amount of times my my parents have driven it in over 2 yrs., I am that picky.

 

i get it done at a friends shop..pretty cheap..12 bucks..but i help them out alot

 

im still "being taught" you could say, changed my oil for the first time like 3 weeks ago and it was adventure getting the stupid oil filter on... other then that to its really simple...

 

i dont have any problem getting the filter on... its getting it off without pouring oil all over the starter that i have problems with... stupid 3.0

 

My truck is so high I can almost sit up under it!

 

I use mobil 1 synthetic, so it's "ALOT" cheaper to do it myself...LOL

The local oil change shop wants $65 to change the oil using mobile 1 fully synthetic. I'm not paying that much.

i change mine myself. but i think ive only done it 7 times since i got my truck. now at 57k miles.

its nice to have synthetics. mobil 1 here.

 

hows the moble 1 working? how many miles till you change?

im going to be switching to that my next change i wanted to see what its like...

 

I usually do it, but with the winter here, and no garage, I just pay Mr. Ford to do it for $15. Good enough for me. Sure its every 3k, but when the temp climbs above 50, I'll crawl under.

i do it ever 10-15k whenever i get around to it. works good for me. i use the 5w-30 extended life stuff.

also use the mobil one filter.

 

I change my own oil with Mobil 1 every 5,000 miles. It's such a pain to do because I'm bagged now.

i had an experience with meineke almost 2 years ago with an oil change that helped me to realize that i dont wanna trust anyone else to work on any of my cars EVER again. especially if its an oil change.

 

I had a local dealer leave the drain plug loose.....now THAT was interesting.

 

what more interesting is my buddys boss at his shop he works at told me my truck only requires 4 quarts of oil. yet the manual says 5. engine damage anyone? so yes, i have 8 cases and i change my own.

Its to easy not to, plus thats when i get to take a loot and see whats going on under my truck...i pretty much inspect the underbody while its draining.

 

i change mine.i can almost stand under it.

 

If you use regular oil, can you automatically switch to some sort of synthetic right off the bat, or do you have to do something before?

 

I dont do it myself, but since money is tight these day looks like I will start. I want to learn how to change all the fluids. engine, tranny, gears.

 

I do it. Too many horror stories from Jiffylube and the like not to!

Speaking of which, it's almost time for me to change it again...
